There are just a few people that absolutely no one can be mean to, mell. You are one of them.

Thank you my guitar playing karaoke singing friend!! I try not to be too big of a b*tch.
I guess I just go off of how people react to me. If they are nice I can extend the same curtosey, but I have also been told that I am NOT someone you want to piss off. Just ask my ex husband. ;D

When the guy at ebay sells his volleyball, Wilson will probably disappear.

I have one of those little happy bunnies on my keychain. He says with a little sad face, "you suck and that's sad"
I agree about ol' Wilson there. My friend/roommate has a Wilson ball with the bloody face and between this site and her ball, I'm getting pretty sick of Wilson.

He is just so overrated...
One thing that makes me laugh about this site though, depending on what board thing your on, have you ever watched the banner with the links up there. It changes relating to the name of the place your at. Kind of amusing. I think I might go see what they put up there for "pantless." Ive never really looked!!

Just my irrelevant 2 cents but I found Numbers to be the most insufferable poster on all of rs.com and I would truly be saddened if he joined these boards. It's not that I'm even disagreeing that he was capable, when he wanted to, of engaging in a serious conversation. It's just that when he didn't, he used a kind of macho posturing, very frequently directed at women, which absolutely turned my stomach. I found it deeply offensive how he let women (and men, for that matter) know how much he loathed them by using sexually abusive rhetoric. I don't care what the fuck that angel in black person did, posts joking around about rape and assault are beyond the fucking pale. A lot of people thought it was the equivalent of third-grade name-calling but I thought it was far more inappropriate, as he used violent sexual domination as a metaphor for his superiority over various posters. That is some seriously fucked up shit, and if calling it what it is makes me PC, then fine.
Sorry...I never really expressed any of this on the old boards because CE had degenerated into such an unbelievable cesspool. But I thought that CE became something much worse than the other boards with all their trolls and board-bombers. It was really upsetting for me to read CE and see that kind of rhetoric, and it would be really upsetting for me to find it here.

Theres nothing wrong with expressing an opinion. Especially now. I think a lot of posters are finding this a MUCH more relaxing and open atmosphere because of the lack of people running around creating problems, slandering names and pointing fingers.
Thing is, with the current group of people here, considering none of us go running to some of the spammers, bombers and bodygirl types (sorry had to say it), it should stay this way. I think there are a fine group of people here who in some instances care about each other, have formed very nice friendships, and enjoy talking about the things they have in common.
I agree with you 100%

(btw, big ups to Mary for remembering me. same with RocDoc for remembering me in reference to the Ellery Eskelin love from way back when)
Now, if I may interject:
I think the definite positive of starting over again on teh web based board is that we have the ability to ignore, refuse entry, or ban people who were less than interesting, purely interested in conflict, etc. Numbers is a prime example of such an attitude. To say he didn't fit the mold is one thing. To say that he looked for conflict however he could get it is something else entirely.
To prevent trolling, I think the best thing to do is not to allow these people any opportunity to troll right now. I'm sure they're, for the most part, totally unaware about the board. And while in time, this will pick up its own trolls, its better simply to let the inevitability of the internet catch up rather than invite it to your front doorstep. I mean, after all, we're all going to die, but that doesn't mean we go running across the freeway or use toasters while bathing to make it come any faster.

Most of the trolls were just simply idiots, obviously. But for sheer laugh-out-loud hilarity, you just couldn't beat Lysergic Aaron. Man, that guy was funny! Too damn right! He was a funny lil' Troll that one, bit of an angry cusser, but funny!

Whether the prospect is at all likely or not put me down as another poster vehemently opposed to EVER inviting Numbers to these boards. I’m all for a decent mix of viewpoints and if fierce debate is the only way two people relate in a CE type setting, so be it, but there are bare minimums of civility and respect. When he first turned up on CE and for some time after that, I tried to talk to Numbers. All I ever got back from him was abuse, pure and simple. Beyond that, we all saw what he turned CE into later on. We don’t need a repeat performance here.
You know I was never sure that Orb wasn’t some sort of twisted frat-boy joke. You can never tell, of course, but the thought crossed my mind on a couple of occasions.

I think RocDoc's assessment of Numbers was pretty spot-on, and I totally agree with Mary. And he just wouldn't fucking quit with the Angel-in-Black thing. It was utterly disgusting (not that that was the only instance). And it spread and polluted other boards. But I'm realizing now that spammers, bombers and trolls really have no power here, though. The ProBoards people have really got it dicked. The unfortunate episode with Knight is a good case-in-point. Maybe he and a few of the Advice Lounge people will get over their hissy-fit in time. I unbanned him (whether you consider him a troll or not), but a few stormed off in a histrionic huff. What was I supposed to do? Oh, well, never mind all that. Others here have already made the case better than I could.
Word to the wise: considering the "five degrees of separation" factor, some of these less savory customers are bound to show up eventually. Be thoughtful in what you say here, to avoid egg-on-face syndrome. Just a suggestion. You might ask JACkory about this. But you see, they will have to behave themselves if they do show up - not just because we have moderators here, but because of the different atmosphere here. I detect a higher sense of fraternity. A high-spirited debate on CE (or elsewhere) is always cool, but we should all respect each other and show common decency and fairness.
Speaking of JACkory, here's something else for the Advice Lounge people who decided to pick up their marbles and go home in a huff to consider. Many of you know this, but for those who don't, Jac and I have been more or less "sworn, mortal enemies" for years at RS. We have had some all-out, knock-down-drag-out flame wars. Some people, like oil and water, just don't mix, and we have had fundamental differences about posters and board dealings. There is also one other poster here whom I had a rift with years ago which has never been resolved (though the simplest of apologies would have sufficed ages ago). All that notwithstanding, we are all here and we manage to co-exist just fine. Actually, when I saw their presence here, I was pleased. Go figure.
Anyhow, just to avoid another "Knight" debacle, what would you folks recommend, if and when Numbers or Orb show up, eh? (I took Orb to the mat a few times at CE - purely on issues, though). I'm still stinging from trying to do the right thing and getting called a fucking nazi. Any suggestions? I have an idea, but I need your input.

Wow.. i dont know. Like I said, on some other board I believe, it was strange to hear that this Orb person was doing wrong because he/she was always completely pleasant with me!! I never saw the bad stuff going on. And while I didnt talk to Orb all that much, it never seemed as though orb had an agenda to be troll like. I hope that made sense.
As for numbers... he can go away and stay away. He was the main reason I left the CE board. i actually really enjoyed it, even if just for watching the conversation and getting some perspective on situations. I couldnt stand him though.

I'm personally with Strat. If it isn't Numbers that shows up, it will be someone like him. Ultimately, I think its going to be up to the mods and to the rest of use, assuming we speak with our minds, to decide whether or not what someone like that brings to the table in the world of discourse is worth the time of the whole.
Personally, while I think on some purely visceral level, the idea of enemies and friends on a message board can be entertaining, letting people run free on a basis of "anything goes/free speech" is probably not the best way to go to keep the core folks here and to allow the general conversations to go on as they were/are right now (in other words, sane). See, also: Phil saying he'd leave if Numbers was invited back.
