Jeez Louise. lol
It was a pretty thorough review. The guy is obviously a fan of some Korn stuff. I got no problem with a reviewer bashing an album if they're neutral-to-glowing about the band. I've read some really shitty Pitchfork reviews that start out with, "I already hated this band going in" and I seriously don't know why in the fuck these people would be assigned to do the review.

That would be me sir and i also agree with luke i think thorn's new buddy Andrew USE to like Korn and is still probably pissed about the whole Matrix produced SeeYouOnTheOtherSideand he's moved on but being maybe the one critic left at PopMatters who still would LISTEN to a Korn album I tend to always post the positive reviews around the boards here if i don't have time to post my own Popmatters has highly developed album reviews unlike your typical so-called IMPORTANT CRITICS you know who you think you are I have defended Korn in the past this album hasn't moved me YET nor do i share the same OPINON of PopMatters NIN? try late 90's Depeche Mode OH WELL i also agree the Pumpkins album doesn't deserve all the negative reviews same for Interpol/Editors **puts on Chopped/Screwed Version of See You On The Other Side

sup patten, yeah all my point-by-point rebuttals back there were all very light heartedly, and amusingly, posted. I realize that the 'black & white text on the page' may leave the impression that I'm, lol, somehow "all worked up" or even "actually angry/upset/etc", but nothing could be further from the truth. I'm just a demented elf w/the tip of my tongue stickin out while I gleefully lambast the shit I happen to not agree with, so it's all terribly good, and loads of fun for me.
Obviously I am passionate about this band and their music, and I want y'all to know that the day KOrn drops an album I don't like, Ya damn well will hear about it from me, straight up. I just so happens, that has YET to occur, is all. Great fucking band

*Actually - they have (kinda, but not technically/officially): The 'Chopped & Screwed' version of SYOTOS I can honestly tell U, I loathe. To hear these songs all s l o w e d down like that, did absolutely nothing for me. (Someone explained to me that 'Chopped & Screwed' is actually a new form of 'remixing' which involves drinking NyQuil or some such similar substance in order to, koff, appreciate it) ;b

I thought it was "DJ Mike Watt" or something like that. But yeah, that chopped & screwed is painful to try and sit thru . . . . I can't make it thru one song. Maybe I should drink half a bottle of NyQuil first, test that out. U gotta slow yer brain down to the pace of the remix, I take it...

I consider Take a Look Into The Mirror as the band's only misstep. I listened to it some months back and I was surprised by how little I cared about it. Some good ideas here and there but Davis' lyrics were at their worst. It seemed like an attempted nostalgic summation of their abilities (as if to offset or take away the sting of the experimentation of Untouchables, as if it was necessary) and I just couldn't get into it.

Dude - that is perfectly stated man. I'd almost completely agree w/you, except for the fact I really LIKE TALITM. But I see *exactly* what you're saying, and you're right; about the lyrics, the '3 steps back' as if 'compensating for the experimentation of iSsuEs & Untouchables' (an experimentation that clearly belongs in their greatest achievements as a band). But I just happen to truly dig the balls-out sickness of the playing on that album. There is definitely a renewed intensity there, its in certain key ways their heaviest album, 2nd to the debut of course.
So, if I HAD to point out a "misstep" in their career; well, I couldn't. All I could do is suggest that SYOTOS is the 'low point' of their career; but the crucial thing to understand about that, is just how much SYOTOS is a pretty fucking cool album ! But I guarantee it is miles below the artistry & sheer passion of Untitled.

So I've got this problem. How do I levelly get across to you (and by 'you' I mean all you dear Castaways) with sincerity and so you believe me, that I honestly think this is not only *quite possibly* the greatest album of koRn's career, but contendor for best album of the year ?
Yeah untitled is gettin in the ring w/ S&A now, and they will duke it out for the #1 Best Album Of 2007 slot, for me.
The most important thing 4U to remember, is this:
untitled is the greatest thing koRn have ever done.

I mean, ya can't really *compare* a serious musician's *later* works against their *debut* in a totally fair way. In certain ways, any number of band's DEBUT will forever shine out as the rawest, brightest jewel in their canon; but on the other hand, one must not dismiss the continued elevation of the artist's progress and growth.
That said & understood in its proper context, Untitled is hands-down the most wicked, solid, dynamic, thoughtful, darkest, most lyrical, not to mention most cohesive album this band has ever dropped.
Yes I am declaring w/out batting an eye it is beyond iSsuEs and Untouchables in certain undeniable ways. It has taken more multiple listens in different types of stereos -- w/out giving it serious listens on HEADPHONES for instance, I probably would never have come to realize all this -- the album is for damn sure MADE 4 HEADPHONES - total headtrip -- and it has also taken me seeing the DVD. ADam mentioned somewhere it's quality stuff - -and he's right -- it's the kind of 'bonus' dvd you always WISH a band would release; covering every damn song in depth (not just a cheap cursory overview). And that footage w/Terry Bozzio - UN FUCKING BELIEVABLE.
The "making of" DVD is mandatory to fully appreciate just wtf is actually going on in the studio w/these brilliant musicians. And watching Bozzio unleash his primal beast on that monstrous drum kit is the stuff legends are made from. It is right up there with JOHN BONHAM PLAYING MOBY DICK LIVE as well as any number of NEIL PEART SOLOES; it is that good and for anyone to dismiss this fucking display of superfluent inspired drumming, well its a tragic oversight on their part, if they give one rat's ass about real rock'n'roll that is.
If not . . ah fuckem. I'm tellin ya peeps - I calls em like I sees em - - - - and we are in the veritable midst of one of the greatest albums to Ever Be released in rock . \k/

I mean . . . Don't Even get me Started.
I WILL write my 'official review' of Untitled . . . later. A cohesive review that does justice to this inspired work. This album is all about Death, God, and Relationships. Not only is that pretty heady - and heavy - stuff; but for it to come from a band who has shown nothing but total lack of compromise in writing about personal issues w/absolute defiant honesty, well U do the math.
I am convinced most people shun this band because they can't "go there". Go where, you ask? to the fuckin' Truth, that's where. It's fuckin' Dirty is what it is . . .
In any case, Untitled plumbs the depths of personal truths in such startling and heartfelt ways, that it becomes a measuring stick by which one's own perceptions are tested. Like, its an album that demands whether or not you are paying attention. KoRn is the band of which it can be said, those who pay attention are duly rewarded immeasurably; and conversely, those who do not pay enough attention are sure to miss the actual point - and beauty - of this naked, honest music.
Yah, its all pretty clear in this fukker's mind just why I've been obsessed w/KoRn ever since their debut. Take a look around . . . nothing much has changed.
Watching Terry in the studio w/the guys - I'm tellin you its heartbreaking. The haunted desire in Bozzio is thinly veiled - the obvious inner wish to be fully accepted as an official member of KoRn - - it was enough to give me goosebumps, and feel kind of sorry for him.
He probably should have understood the concept of KoRn's camaraderie, which is best symbolized by the shares the four remaining members own in the band. Ain't No Way the guys are going to forsake David - they have allowed him to take a break. Once his break is over, oh you can Bet David will be back, if for no other reason than to settle back in the saddle and "show em how its done".

Is HUSHABYE not the darkest song you've ever heard in yer freaking life ? It is just... man O man. It pulls out all the stops. *gets chills just thinkin about it*
It leads me to thinkin':
That one reviewer that patten posted, who said Hushabye was "unforgiveable" *(and he didn't mean because of the meaning behind the song; he just didn't get it at all) --?
*As long as there are mainstream reviewers like him bashing on koRn cuz they don't understand, then this band is staying ahead of the pack, U know what I'm saying ?
So long as KoRn can continue to provide intense music and songs that have meaning for the true fans and the kidz -- meanings that fly right over the mainstream audience's heads -- then this band will continue to have relevance.
So we should be thankful for some of these "bad" reviews -- they just don't get it & it only goes to show that Korn has still fucking got it. Know what I'm say'n ~?

Untitled reaches #2 in album sales (in the first week) according to Billboard.com. R&B singer Common rounded out at #1.[/i][/b] [/size]
Korn's "Untitled" (Virgin) climbs aboard at No. 2 this week, making it the rock troupe's seventh consecutive top 10 album. Sales of 123,000 units were fueled in part by the single "Evolution," which is No. 6 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart. The group's top tier streak dates back to 1996, when "Life Is Peachy" debuted at No. 3.
Put that in yer earbudz & blast it ;D

Well I purchased 2 GA tix to see KORN perform live in my old stomping grounds, back east, of Portland, Maine. The entire civic center venue is GA, so it'll be guaratneed MadNesS. ;D
I got the extra ticket for my cuz Teo, we used to tear shit up in the pits back in the day, and this one is a birthday present for him.
I already bought my round trip airfare to depart on Fri, October 5th, and return the day after the Korn show, flyin back on Wed morning, October 10th.
I'll get to see my uncles and aunts, cousins, friends, all of who I haven't seen in a dog's age. Then to cap it off w/ a GA Korn show, well that'll end the mini vacation on a fine note if I do say so myself.
