~ now listening to the 2nd jonathan davis demo rip, a song called August 12. Begins very alterna era- late 80s with Bells setting a nice gothic intro. this is exactly what anyone who knows the real jon davis [hundreds of thousands of fans worldwide] are expecting: 'post-nuwave' is the best description, w/ a gothic touch and a sense of impending doom. At the 1:45 sec mark, the song slips directly into lost legend territory with the beat suddenly disappearing for a haunting ambience to replace it like a drifting sense of loss increasingly infringed upon with shades of approaching danger. Then the song resumes with its bell-tolls and synthesized beat; a re-established sense of marching along to a familiar anthem not without its shades of ongoing hope.
I don't know what August 12 represents for Jonathan, it could be the birthday of one of his kids for all I know, but its a powerful abstract metaphor nonetheless for a a fan like me to ponder whilst listening to it. Shades of Sisters Of Mercy and their 1959 song.

JD Talks Lil Wayne Cover, Love For Hip-Hop
Jonathan Davis, better known as the lead singer for Korn, recently leaked a cover of Lil Wayne's single "Got Money" to the internet to lots of positive feedback. Why? Because he's a huge fan of hip-hop, and especially of Weezy.
"I got into Wayne during the Cash Money days, in the beginning. I remember we went up against him when we put a Korn record out, and I just wanted to know what all that was about. So, I really got into all that New Orleans dirty south style music, and I've been a fan ever since," Davis explained to BallerStatus.com. "This latest album is amazing, so he deserves everything he gets from this Carter III album. I think it's amazing. I love it."
Davis, who as a member of Korn collaborated with the likes of Ice Cube, says his version of Weezy's second single "Got Money," featuring T-Pain, was the result of a studio session for his upcoming solo album. He and his crew were listening to the original from Lil Wayne, and he loved the track so much, he figured he'd try to create his own version, just for fun. When it was finished, everyone in the studio loved it, so he leaked it.
"I heard the song, and me and my manager were listening to it and he said 'I think you could sing that.' I said 'You think so?' He said 'Yea,' so I said 'alright,'" Davis explained about the unique version of the track. "I basically went in and gave it try to see what would happen if I did it in a different style, make it my own. It came out, banging."
Davis even went the extra step after his first try at the track, enlisting one of T-Pain's engineers who helped him perfect the auto-tune effect to keep that element of the song intact. He also called in a favor from his friend Jim Root from the rock band Slipknot to play on it, and the rest is history.
So far, he says people love his version, even both T-Pain and Lil Wayne himself. "I know T-Pain loved it, he put it on his site. I know Lil Wayne loved it, so I've heard," said Davis.
Is a collaboration with the rocker and Lil Wayne coming? When asked he said there wasn't anything immediately planned, but if Lil Wayne came a knocking, Davis explained that he'd be excited at the opportunity to work with the superstar rapper anytime.
"I'd say 'Hell yes,' " Jonathon responded when asked about a possible collaboration with the New Orleans rapper. "I love his sh** 'cause he's dark man. I dunno, I just like it. It's like no other."
While he's received a lot of positive feedback from the hip-hop experiment, Davis says that people shouldn't hold their breaths if they're expecting him to create a straight hip-hop album. "It's definitely part of what makes me do what I do. I'ma fan of it, but I've never tried to rip it off. I use subtle influences here and there, but I never wanted to make a straight hip-hop record, because I'm just a big fan of it," he explained.
However, the rocker did leave the door open to more cover, saying that more may be in the future ... just for fun, though. But, not on his still-untitled solo record expected sometime early next year.
He describes his solo album as "heavy Peter Gabriel style" and "real, dark and heavy, and groovy, world style music." Hip-hop? No, he says.
"It's not gonna be any direct hip-hop, but I think people that enjoy hip-hop would enjoy my record," he said.

For some reason I thought of Korn the other day. Hadn't heard anything about 'em in a long time and wondered if they were still together.

Oh yeah, they are still together. That is, the 3 remaining original members: Jon, Munky, Fieldy. But they've really towed the line after Head left em to fulfill his duty as the 2nd coming of Christ. Cutting to the chase --
Korn will return for their wicked and legendary 9th studio album in early 09. They are about to head in to the studio, I think next month. THe best news: Ross Robinson, the original producer of their first 2 albums, is returning to the helm. Believe you me, Ross knows what to do with those guys, how to tweak em into the right mode of musical expression. Or should I say, korny expression. This album promises to be stripped back down to basics, down-tuned, raw, heavy, and uncompromising. Who knows -? Ross might even be able to scare a couple tricks up his sleeve. Namely Brian and David. We'll see. It's unlikely... but entirely possible. The 9th Korn album will rule regardless.

so album 10 will be rick rubin trying to get a more traditional sound after ROSS make another untouchables which i rather liked hence the death magnetic playbook is in full force NOW with established rock groups i'll still check for it reguardless my favorite ROSS ROBERTSON PRODUCED ALBUM IS STILL THE HALLEY'S COMET OF THIS DECADE 2000'S man i wish they would have gone on at least one more album before mars volta/sparta oh jd can't do a rap album because of the bomb that was Fieldy is the first member of Los Angeles nu metal forerunners Korn to release a solo project. Rock N Roll Gangster, however, isn't likely to thrill Korn fans who dig that band's primal lyrical angst and down-tuned musical attack, nor will it likely earn the bassist a new legion of admirers. Over the course of 17 hip-hop tracks, Fieldy delivers short, basic cuts of seemingly autobiographical boasting, including the self-referential "Baby Hugh Hef" and a pointless 21-second Korn-penned instrumental. The bassist's rapped vocals are in sharp contrast to Korn compatriot Jonathan Davis, who supplies an edgy vocal passion to "Just for Now." The best tune, "Child Vigilante," borrows from Whodini's "Freaks" for a fuller sound than most of the album's offerings, while Tre from Pharcyde pumps up "Sugar-Coated," making the Fieldy-only cuts paler in comparison. Rock N Roll Gangster makes it apparent why Fieldy isn't the frontman for Korn. --Katherine Turman ;D ;D ;D

cool man thanx for spreading tha love and yes I can picture the new year's eve party perfectly in my mind.
I am really stoked to listen to what JD comes up with for his solo record. He is going to let loose with the faux-80s new-wave influence like no one's business. The timeline on this particular wavelength of musical evolution goes something like this:
the Cure ~~~> Psychedelic Furs ~~~> bauhaus ~~~> depeche Mode ~~~> Duran Duran ~~~> peter gabriel ~~~> nine inch nails ~~~> Jonathan Davis.
This has nothing to do with Korn. This is Jonathan Davis about to be unleashed on an unsuspecting world. This is going to be one of 2009's highlights. I'm losing my mind in anticipation.

the new KoRn song has leaked, it's called My Time - - and it is raw, straight up, old school Korn. Ross has definitely brought these guys back together into the studio to jam out like they used to - - songs performed in 1 take, with only minor layers added. Vocals in 1 take. By the end of the raw demo for My Time - - their new drummer (Ray Luzier) can be heard employing only one stick - - the other one broke.
KORN III: REMEMBER WHO YOU ARE should drop around June. It is the real rebirth of this band. They are officially a 4-piece, now. I can't wait to hear this new album. Most highly-anticipated album of 2010, for me.
Some things never change . . .
