Oh, by the way, Thorny, you are hereby REQUIRED to play you some Silent Hill before you see the movie. ;D I could be wrong, but I just have this gut feeling that people who are unfamiliar with the games will leave the theater feeling all "meh", like they saw an okay horror movie and not much else, but people who know the games are going to leave all jazzed and buzzing about how completely freaking awesome and dead-on it was. Again, it could be the total opposite and fans of the game could leave pissed off, while everyone else thought it was good, solid horror... but somehow I don't think so. I just don't think Gans would do that to us; he's too big a fan himself. Plus, you'll dig the soundtracks totally. I just know it. You're missing out, man...

I knew this was coming. And checkit Lady: I've already planned to get SILENT HILL as the 1 game w/my new system. . . only thing is . . . . I keep putting off getting a game system. It's Sony Playstation 2, right? Not X-box? Cuz my friend has an X-box, I'm always leanin towards gettin one of those. . . course now they got the "X-box 360" or whatnot, which throws a monkey wrench in my plans. . . . do I spring for that shit, or what? So now I'm back to square one: No game system, no Silent Hill . . . no fun

I do believe Silent Hills 2 thru 4 are available on X-Box. I imagine the 360 will play the old games too. But I think part 1 was only released for PS1 (PS2 should still play it), so if you wanna tackle them in order you'll have to do the PlayStation. Like I said, it isn't necessary since I fared okay, it was just hard to wrap my brain around the story until I actually played through part 1 myself. Now I have it down.

Don't get confused here, but the movie is based mostly on 1.
BUT... : from what I've seen from the trailers and production photos, a LOT of the movie's SET came from SH2. The music from the trailer is from SH2. PYRAMID HEAD is from SH2.
But the basic storyline is SH1 all the way.
Seems to me they took part 1's story and part 2's atmosphere. Each of these games are set in different parts of Silent Hill. Part one is set around Central Silent Hill, on the north side of Toluca Lake. Parts 2 and a part 3 take place south of Toluca Lake. This is my favorite part of the town, with the little shops and stuff, and the set from the movie resembles this side of town.
Oh, and all of the streets are named after authors. Cool, huh? ;D

Then you need to start with part 2. Pyramid Head can play with you all day long. Here's a basic SH2 plotline from Wikipedia: Three years ago James Sunderland's wife Mary passed away from a terminal disease. James, still grief-stricken from the loss, receives a letter from his late wife asking him to meet her at their "special place" somewhere in Silent Hill. James is afraid and confused. Out of curiosity and the hope that somehow he can meet Mary and be with her again, he sets off for Silent Hill. He travels to the resort town only to find it replaced with a mist-shrouded hell full of crawling monsters. While searching the town's decrepit buildings for clues, James encounters other odd people, including a little girl who seems to know a great deal about James' and Mary's relationship, and a mysterious young woman named Maria who is the spitting image of Mary. Throughout the game he is pursued by a vicious, brutal being dubbed Pyramid Head by James. Pyramid Head's true name is mentioned towards the end of the game. And it gets waaay better. Maria is my girl. A lot of people hate her, but that's one crazy 'ho. Imagine finding a woman who looks exactly like your sweet dead wife only she's a freaking crazy 'ho. That shit makes me laugh.

And do you like Jacob's Ladder, Thorny? All of the SH games are heavily influenced by Jacob's Ladder. There is even an entire section of SH3 devoted to prowling around a creepy subway station looking for Bergen Street. Same street Tim Robbins was looking for in JL.

hmmm . . . interesting. Yes, I loved Jacob's Ladder; now there's a movie that needs to be revisited. I like that plotline setup. Man I should just rent the game and take it over to Matt's. If I wait until I have my own X-box . . . well it might never happen ;b

Oh I fully intend to go hang out on that street corner, sisyphus. The only other street corner that earned my undivided intent to visit was this one: And visit it I did, about 2 yrs ago. Went into this used clothing store located smack dab @that corner, and bought me a tie dyed jet black button-down shirt, for only $3. I loves me that shirt.

I wouldn't call that a "street"... from what I heard the venue they played at Friday night in Bako put that sign out for them. Apparently it's just the road used to get around to the loading docks. It's not anything the city did for them.
