I'm putting this poll up and I think that the majority should rule on this. If the majority of us want him gone, then I think Strat should make it so.

Of course I voted "Banned Forever".

Also, the reason that I put "suspended for a month" is that should you guys want to have the option of him coming back after his account has been turned off for a month, that's cool. I personally don't want to go down that road because I don't think there is any hope of getting through the boy. Ban forever.
I will also respect the decision that majority of people around here want him to stay.

I'm still thinking about this poll ... my gut says "banned forever" b/c I personally think he's a troll who just wants attention, intentionally baits people, and has a really irratating posting style. However, I also hate to think that someone can't change, and so I'm considering the "banned for a month" option, although, like Skvor, I really kind of doubt that he ever will change, largely b/c he doesn't want to.
There are lots of posters here that I don't agree with about something or other, whether musical, political, or whatever. But when I have a discussion with, for example, DED about Neil Young, there's a meaningful give and take -- "here's what I don't like about Neil" "here's what I love about the guy" etc. -- that you just don't get with PEW's "know-it-all" closed-minded attitude. Bow and I can exchange jokes about the Doors ineptitude or my inability to "get" them, and it's always done in good humour and (frankly) with great affection. I don't have a clue what Mary sees in Nick Cave at this point, but that's okay b/c she doesn't "get" Ted Leo. With PEW, there's just lots of bile and vitriol, even when he brings up a potentially interesting discussion (say "New Wave" vs. "Punk") that could lead to lots of things, he isn't looking for a discussion, he's looking to convince people that he's right and that's that. He's an authoritarian little prick, frankly, and the more I think about this, the less reason I see to keep him here.
I do not generally directly engage PEW, b/c I think it's pointless. But I know that he reads all my posts, and this is directly to PEW:
PEW, you're an idiot. You know a little tiny bit about a few things, and think you know everything about everything. You're unwilling to ever even entertain the proposition that someone who doesn't agree with your conclusions could possibly be right, or could even know more than you. You think there is one correct way of looking at the world, your way, and that anyone who doesn't think that way needs to be converted. You're a zealot, and not even one with a particularly noble, or even interesting, cause. No one here gives two fucks about "rockjism" or your blog. If we did, we'd be bringing them up ourselves.
People here generally like one another, even when we get on each other's nerves, but you don't seem to like any of us. Why do you come here? You're the subject of ridicule, both public and private, and nothing more than an annoyance to anyone. When some folks (like ThoRn and Skvor) have tried to be nice to you and speak to you civilly, you immediately step outside of the parameters they stated you needed to follow. You seem to be a sociopath who can't stand to be away from people, or a masochist for verbal abuse -- you seem to think that anything that gets you some attention is acceptable, but you don't do the things necessary to fit in well to a group. At least not this one.
You don't belong here, PEW. You don't fit in, and you're not even trying to. I thought that maybe if we gave you a long enough chance, you'd gradually become someone more sociable, someone who attemted to forge connections and dialogue rather than a loudmouth who sees himself as holding all the answers. I was wrong. You're a troll. Nothing more. It's all you were at RS years ago, it's all you've been when you've tried to post here before, and it's all you are now. Worst still, you're not even a funny or creative troll. You've got a total of about four themes that you work, if that, and that's all. We've heard your schtick, and I don't think anyone here likes it. You've had your chance, and you blew it. Go home.
And shut the fuck up.
That's it. I've decided. Ban. For life.

I will also respect the decision that majority of people around here want him to stay. I don't even think he should have the "banned for a month" option because this troll has already been banned and then allowed to come back after a period of time. This, I assume, was his "second chance", and after his homophobic baiting bullshit today on his ridiculous Seger vs. Springsteen board. I think he's screwed that up, too. He deletes insulting posts when he gets "called on the floor" about them, he modifies posts and takes out insulting material (once again just today he called Skvor a "PC-Prick" and changed it soon thereafter to "PC antagonist"...which he spelled wrong, btw). His sole purpose here seems to be trying to get people riled up. Well, he succeeded with me today, with his comment about whether or not I find gay men to be masculine simply because I used a reference to James Dean. Ban this shit-stirrer forever.

Even with people that I pretty much disagree with everything they post, I can usually find some common ground. Pew isn't looking for common ground, he doesn't respect us or our opinions. He just wants to show us how much he (thinks he) knows about music and pimp his blog...push some buttons along the way. I know haven't very successful in ignoring people in the past, but I'm going to try really hard to ignore pew. He deserves it. His baiting is obvious and easily sidestepped if you so choose, I so choose. That being said I don't care if you ban him or not. He has no power here.

I really have no idea what to do with this issue. I'm leaning towards either #2 or #4. He's driving people away from here and that to me sucks! I miss some folks around here, and I wish they'd come back - I'm talking especially to you Phil! I just don't want any one else to leave, the people the PEW pisses off the most it seems - Skvor, JAC, Kool, and Ryo - I don't chat with too often but I'm fond of you all, and would hate to see a situation where it's either 'him or you'.
Having said that, I hate the idea of banning someone - it seems so wrong. But if losing him meant keeping others, I'd be in favor of a ban.
I'll vote later, must ponder a bit.

No, if you decide that you would like him to stay, I will perfectly respect that and I promise that I won't disappear. The reason that I put this poll up is that I really wanted to know what the community's thoughts were on the issue.
I also believe that if you are going to vote yes, I'd like to see those people come forward and give the reasons why since those of us who voted against PEW, stated the reasons why. Trust me, you're not going to get flamed and we are going to respect your opinion.
This is for exploratory purposes only.
