Although I must confess I did shriek like a woman during the whole buck/throw debacle.

"Beautiful, innocent creatures of the earth". You wouldn't say that if you ever got bitten on the shoulder by one ... OUCH ! IT HURT ... !! I've been bucked and thrown off a horse before. It's their nature to be impetuous. I just hopped on again and showed the horse who was master. I did take a step back and punch the horse right on the "nose" probably hurt me more than him !! That same yearling kicked my girl friend right in the chest a few months later. Lucky for her the horse leg was completely extended when it hit her because at 5'1" and less than a 100 pounds, he would probably have killed her ... !! Beautiful animals but should always be approached with caution and respect !!

Before I ride I always walk the horse a lap or two. Get to know the animal before hopping on it's back.
Has always worked for me.
This was after the riding altercation I have previously mentioned.

I'd have intervened for the poor chipmunk. Their cute, like the beavers and possums I see every now and again here in Texas. Yeah, they are kinda cute little critters after all. Awfully stupid, though, and they are extremely prolific breeders (perhaps to make up for their lack of smarts), so I don't worry too much about a few being taken by predators. My hat was sure off to old "Puffy," though - heart like a lion!

That's a handsome critter you got there Riley. Looks like the other dogs have already shown him the basics of posing nonchalantly.

Beautiful pup, Riley. Details? (what breed(s) is he, age, etc.)
How have the other dogs reacted? Every time I've added another dog, there's been no problem, esp. adding a puppy.

Not this time Doc. In a moment of weakness we sort of caved on our whole belief system and bought from the breeder. My wife saw him and fell in love with him. Given the crappy year she's had it seemed like a good reason to ease up on my high and mightiness around adopting vs. breeding. I guess at least we know he won't end up being a dog that needs adopting He's a 9 week old Golden Doodle, which I'm told is a Golden Retriever/Standard Poodle mix. I just think he's a really cute dog.

Every time I've added another dog, there's been no problem, esp. adding a puppy. the other two are still feeling him out Ken, but I think it will be fine. Dogs tend to be better at sorting stuff like this out than we humans are. I think they'll especially be okay with him once he's bigger than both of them.
