Nicorettes gums worked for me but the real kicker was when I realised I got out of breath just by picking up the boys (aged two and three) and tried to climb a flight of stairs...
Acupuncture also worked for some people I know but how much effective it really was (placebo effect) is still (IMO) up to debate ...
Will power and a real strong incentive is the best way to kick out the habit !

Yes indeed Phil! Thanks! I am gonna use the patch. Those fuckin white sticks are sapping me cos Im pretty hardcore.
Last time I tried to quit a friend of mine came to visit. And he Brought that Wilco documentary "I Am Trying to break Your heart"--that opening scene with Tweedy all up in his ride enjoying a nice smoke! The first day also the brakes went out on my truck! I was like "Oh shit!" I didnt hit anyone or anything but I was damn close! Glad the emergency brake worked. Then it rained! Cocteau Twins and cigarettes weather! Two weeks into it almost forced a grown man to cry. Alot of nonsmokers don't understand.
I do not know why I am sharing this--I mind loves to smoke but the body says no!

"People that smoke say,'You don't know how hard it is to quit smoking.' Yes I do. It's as hard as it is to START flossing.....You seem jittery......Yeah, I'm about to floss."

LESSONS LEARNED--If you are trying to quit smoking tell no one. Betting pools are pretty foul when it comes to someones health (some people find it funny--just like Celebrity Deathwatch--I just dont see it--I really really dont--not even at the basic level of human intelligence--maybe other people just like to see other people fail at their goals--understandable--but I still fail to find the humor in it unless you are extremely bored and have nothing to worry about yourself)

I've been taught how to use my acupuncture for smoking cessation, but honestly haven't had a success rate that I can be happy with while taking payment for the procedure(s)... But I've got someone at the health club who I'd been researching hypnotists for, a 2 and a ½ pack a day MANIAC smoker....and the dickhead hypnotherapists I looked up for him have been real spotty in calling the guy back (tho he needs to try harder dammit)...but just the other day I heard an AM radio news station do a blurb on 'AcuLaser' treatment for smoking...their blurb in some sort of an 'investment prognosis' site that Google connected me to: www.foocus.com/companyprofile0506.htmlAculaser Solutions 1269 Doctors Drive Farmington MO 63640 Contact Phone Fax Internet Terry or Teresa 866-655-9355 573-760-1531 www.aculasersolutions.com AcuLaser Solutions has a somking cessation program with a 94% success rate! 100% of our clients feel the effects of our weight loss program and are able to loose weight. It is the perfect companion for your sleep disorders center, physician office or start your own business. With a minimun investment of time and money, you could be maximizing your staff and space while treating the total patient with smoking cessation, weight loss and Insomnia protocols. Auricular therapy is acupuncture performed on the ear utilizing a low-level laser and small electrical stimulation instead of needles. We provide the laser, AcuLaser manual, hands on training, a model ear, reference book, policies and procedures, marketing materials and a certificate upon completion. Call us today and be the first in your area. ~ A 94% success rate regarding smoking is off the fucking HOOK. I've already been interested in laser-therapy for pain control for several years. It's new enough that it was not taught at my college when I graduated in '93, BUT I have heard excellent things about it's effectiveness...pain control and rehab is what I'm about, but if anything can be 94% successful for smoking, count me in.

Bette-Half's uncle succesfully quit smoking after a few hypnosis sessions ... Quite a feat for the heavy(as in large) heavy smoker that he was ... A damn shame he died just a month later ! !

Ouch! But like you said the guy had issues beyond the smokes...then throw in the vasoconstriction effect narrowing all his blood vessels, one or more of his organs was eventually going to throw in the towel, the longer he smoked.

thanks Roc Doc. Im an extremely cynical soul--I know smoking is mostly behavioural though, I know it for a fact! Even when I went to see my shitty hometown and people I love not the same due to disease (MS--that really sucks!--grandparents that cant even see and the demetia they suffer--the hardest part was there was nothing I could do to help them!) I cut down. I was strong. I saw shit there that really upset me but I stayed tough--all the way til the last day. Then it was all over. Its an emotional thing. you get pissed, you draw off something that does you harm. Its psychologically and physically wrong. The nicotine addiction really wasent there. .....Anyway-thank you RocDoc. I may just check it out!
