My WTF moment of today:

I've been asked to "mentor" a guy who is switching into my department at work. He's worked in a different but closely related department for the last 3 years and wanted to try something new. He's maybe 50 or 51, nice enough guy I guess.

So I'm explaining something to him today and I notice that he's just leaning in and scrutinizing my face. So I ask him what's wrong (thinking I have something on my face) and what does he say?

"Nothing... I just noticed you look kind of haggard today."

WTF?!? Seriously, who says that? And it's not like we're friendly enough that he could get away with even making a joke like that (though really, not such a funny joke anyway.)

LOL! "Thanks for noticing - you look like a dick today!" Sounds like he's trying to start up a special "repoire" with you, Tunes. Nip it. In the bud. I mean, it might be one thing to say, "you look kinda tired," but HAGgard? Naw.

Its like when people say "are you ok? you look tired". Man, I hate that. wtf. By slapping the "are you ok?" bit onto what is essentially a massive insult (esp as you always seem to get the "you look tired" remarks when you're not tired or hungover or sick etc), it serves to present that person as being compassionate and concerned. Lies, all lies.

And you can't say anything back to that, b/c it makes you seem nasty. You just have to pretend you really are tired & not simply some hideous baggy-eyed beast.

Don't know what to say about haggard guy except he seems he's being to familiar.

Another work related one.
Last night I go to off load my gear into the next unit & there’s this older (ancient looking actually) guy working on a truck in the lane way of it.
So as I’m unlocking the door I mention that as soon as I’m done people are moving in (which they are).
He says “oh you work for housing” I say “well I contract through them” he says “so you’re the dictator”
I say “I don’t work for CFHA if that’s what you mean & I live in Q’s too so I’d watch what I say”.
(CFHA is the much hated civilian run base housing).
I start carrying smaller stuff figuring he’ll get the hint & move, no such luck.
So 6 trips up from the road later I’m done & I lock the place.
Making my way back to the car & I get “why didn’t you ask me to move?”
(I’m thinking yeah right; you’ve already ranted at me like I'm going to speak to you further)
So I say “I figured as soon as you saw me carrying you’d have moved”
He says “well Jesus I’m under my dash here.Why are all you people so bitter, you’re bitter bitter Nazis!”
Well I stop; say “pardon me! Look I told you I don’t work at housing and (pointing) I live right there one block over so I’d watch my mouth”
Then I drove away with him mumbling ‘bitter, bitter”
Found out from my neighbor (who is a CFHA employee) that this same loon also wrote them a scorching 6 pg letter in which he also called them Nazis amongst other things.
He’s in a 4 plex & seems to think he can spread his stuff out over 3 yards, their sin, they asked him not to.
I also found out his a civi & so is his wife.
He’s employed somewhere on base.
I’m waiting eagerly for the next time. He won’t believe who I am so I’m sure a call to the military police will help him understand. Asshole!!!!!
Not really looking forward to going there today.

It got worse………….we all sitting down?
I come out my door to get in my car at 6:48 this morn & guess who’s sitting in his truck sitting at the end of my drive glaring at me!
Yup, same guy, that’s what I get for pointing in a general direction & saying I live over there.
So I drive quickly like a bunny & file a report with the MP’s telling them I just want some sort of record in case this goes further.
Then I go to the CFHA office to give them a heads up.
Seems loony tunes was in there first & filed a complaint on me!!!!
I like that, he’s bone ass crazy yet he files a complaint on me!
I have no idea what he said & frankly this morning I didn’t want to know as I knew I’d only get more upset.
I do know that it’s got to be one load of fairy tales though as the CFHA boss said to me “his story is very different from yours”
That was all I needed to hear to figure that one out.
So thankfully he stayed away all day, the MP’s did heavy patrols by the Q I’m working in (nice work environment eh) & that’s where it stands.
I’m under advisement not to even look at him & to not respond to anything he may say.
I said “don’t worry when I’m convinced mental illness is at play (which I now am) I’ve no desire to play the persons games”.
I did find out tonight however (get this) his wife is the addictions councilor on this base.
Now that, is just sad.

So I'm walking to Shibuya station, when a handkerchief drops from a woman's bag. I do what any decent person (who is not in a hurry) would do - I pick it up and go over to her and say "excuse me, you..." and before I can finish my sentence, she quickens her pace and walks away from me. I have no idea what she mistook me for, but I walk after her, wanting to return the fucking handkerchief to her. To which she responds by breaking into a run. I realize that pursuing her further might result in her calling the cops on me or something, say "fuck" to myself, feel slighly offended, and throw the handkerchief away.

The moral of this story is, don't be nice to people.
