But since Ryo was largely educated here in the States, isn't he really "white"? Oh shit, I didn't realize that. Well there goes my impunity from white man's guilt. But I have plenty of friends who spent all their time in Japan that listen to American music, so surely Pearl Harbor must be their motive? I bet the Beatles liked American music because they felt guilty about oppressing America before its independence.

Doesn't explain why they couldn't play it better, but it at least makes sense to me now. It's the whole colonial guilt, delayed by almost two centuries, thing.

But since Ryo was largely educated here in the States, isn't he really "white"? I mean, PEW says he understands the black man b/c of his experiences growing up in Chicago, and Ryo seems to me to be a lot more "white" than PEW is "black." PEW grew up in Pekin, which is 95.8% white according to Wikipedia. We had one black kid in the high school I went to. his nickname was Spot. BTW as usual Ken is lying. I've never said I grew up in Chicago. I spent the summer of '85 here (when I was 17) and then I moved to the Southside in 1991 at the age of 23. Ken also lied about several things in regard to my post on White man's guilt. But he's a lawyer right--no one really expects him to tell the truth.

Hey, I just bought a new cell phone -- and it's BLACK! I guess that was more of my white guilt coming out, huh? BTW, having iTunes on my phone is awesome, even if it can only hold 100 songs. I love the fact that the built-in speaker makes it sound like a seventies transistor radio, too.

FYI, this was posted by Mr. Wagemann in the comments section under the James Brown racist tirade linked to earlier in this thread:
Ian, I've experienced black culture first hand, living on the southside of Chicago. I was homeless in my early 20s and stood in soup lines and hustled coin with ghetto blacks, I've also worked side by side with middle-class blacks and I've known well-educated and well-to-do blacks as well. Most white people dont really know any black people really well and their only idea of black culture comes from the asinine view they get from the media. The reason more blacks are in prison than whites is because of racism that is inherent in our socio-economic system. There are more blacks in disfunctional school systems than whites. There are more blacks born into poverty, which means no health insurance, worse nutrition, worse education and LESS opportunity. Blacks as a whole dont earn the same wages as whites and this is because of hidden racism.
So what motivation do whites (who are on top) have to even the playing field? They have no motivation other than basic human decency, but most whites would rather look out for themselves and turn their head the other way and ignore it. But that causes guilt. So they go out and champion black artists like James Brown as if to say, "Yeah I know the system is messed up, but it aint my fault, cuz look, I'm down with James Brown!"
According to Mr. Wagemann, he lived (or lives, it's unclear) on the south side of Chicago (which is, after all, the baddest part of town). In another post, he flatly states "I'm from Chicago."

Ken, is it a Nokia? Because Nokias rule. Sorry, no. It's a Motorola SLVR. One of the thinnest phones available ... and it has actual iTunes software on it, so transferring files from my Macs is a cinch. I love it.
