This board has been initiated in an attempt to provide posters the opportunity to comment upon the boards themselves, boards politics and as an outlet to air any grievances over what has turned into a rash of deletions.
For instance, this post of mine that got deleted:

Locking shin's campaign thread was out of line, and definately smacks of power-abuse.
I'm not throwing my hat in with the radical liberal jokesters here, and I hope I don't alienate strat-0 or chrisfan (seein' as how she's the new mod), but the board was a joke from the start. I didn't personally find it very funny, but it wasn't created by me or for me and was not obligated to cater to my sense of humour.
Everyone knew it was nothing more than a joke...as if shin ever had a chance to be CE moderator...but then again, I never thought strat-0 would let anyone moderate this particular area, for the sole reason that the two sides are such polar opposites and handing the reigns to either one would sure look like an endorsement of one particular side. That's sure what it looks like here...
But hey, they are strat-0's boards...I'd hate to piss him off to the extent that he decided to pull an RS and shut 'em down completely.
And the truth is that I've supported practically every administrative decision he has ever made...until now.
The CE board is one thing. But these spin-offs are nothing more than that and have not earned the same degree of reverence as CE...in other words, who really cares what was posted on the shin campaign board? Especially to the point of locking it up? Was there even an explanation for WHY it was locked up? I guess I should go check that out...

...and the curt response it was given by the board's new moderator:

You can post it all you want, I'll keep deleting it. I said earlier today that the CE boards are not the place for bitching and complaining about what is done here. That is still the case. If you're unhappy about it, PM away. I believe I"m doing what I was asked to do. If I interpreted it wrong, then I have no doubt at all that Strat-o will let that be known.

To have my post characterized as nothing more than "bitching and complaining about what is done here" is offensive enough, but then to have it deleted...sorry, but that's the last straw.
Current Events, generally speaking, are not limited to politics and national/international affairs. What's happening on the boards is just as much a "current event" as the Rolling Stones' controversial new song.

If posters are not allowed to discuss these issues on the CE boards, they need a place to do so, and this board was created to fill that need.
Here's hoping it won't get locked down as well, but to be honest, I have my doubts.

I would also like for this board to be used as a place where moderators can communicate with posters about the decisions they make.
For instance, kMc created a board in which he legitimately asked why the shin campaign thread was locked. Before he even got a single reply, his board was locked down.
Why?
I'd like to know why both boards were locked...

Hopefully the moderators will view this board as a positive opportunity and NOT A CHALLENGE TO THEIR AUTHORITY.

We've tried to keep this discussion where it belongs but chrisfan keeps deleting all of it. So we've been forced to take this to other boards. This is an abuse of power, pure and simple.

Chris doesn't think that board politics belongs in the Current Events section.

Board politics might not belong on the CE9 or Canadian Politics or Theory Nerds boards, but it definately deserves a thread of it's own under that heading.

It doesn't matter now...my crystal ball shows a dim future for the Castaways...better cut-and-paste what you want to keep.

I did not lock down the majority of the boards under CE. I locked down Kenny's, and I locked down the waterfall board. I made the decision to do so with both following Strat-o's lead. He locked down the majority of them last night. He and I spoke briefly about it, so I won't pretend to speak for him. But I would assume it was because he was fed up with that area being dicked around with. Sure, it can be argued logically that other people started them, they weren't bothering people who weren't posting on them, and no harm was being done. But allow me to ask you this Jac -- you spend a lot of time on your section of the boards. If all the sudden, the Insect Lounge were pummeled with all sorts of smart ass boards, would you be cool with it?

The current situation is frustrating for all of us. And when I say all of us, I mean myself just as much as all of you guys. I was asked last night to be moderator there, and I agree to. I didn't think it was fair for me to be one ofthe ones bitching to strat-o, and then not cooperate when he was trying to do something about the situation. Have I gone overboard on deleting posts today? Sure. But I've gone overboard as a reaction to the disruptions going overboard as well. I find it ironic that some of the same people who were unhappy with the problem last week are unhappy with the solution this week. It sure would help if those people would offer an alternative, rather that just complaining no matter what happens that is imperfect.

We appreciate your effort at merely creating a board where we can freely speak our mind about these issues, JACkory, without having to fear some trigger-happy moderator deleter ruining everything.

I hope Chrisfan will see that the board I set up about how Bush is handling the War is a sincere effort at constructively maintaining a CE perspective.

C'mon, chrisfan . . . dig deep inside your christian values. . . I *know* you can forgive & start over. You can do it . . .

Jac -- you spend a lot of time on your section of the boards. If all the sudden, the Insect Lounge were pummeled with all sorts of smart ass boards, would you be cool with it?


Actually I don't. Most of the theads here in the Insect Lounge have been dead so long they stink. Only the Religion board gets my attention.
To be honest, I'd be more than cool with people creating whatever boards they want in this section. I hope they do.

The problem and the solution are not one and the same, so why is it ironic that someone might disagree with and be unhappy with your solution? It's not the ONLY solution, is it? If it were, then there's irony.

At least you admit you've gone overboard with the deletions.
That's something, I guess.

Never said it was the only solution. In fact, that is exactly why I said it would help if those people would offer up an alternative. It's very easy to identify problems. It's not as easy to fix them.

I mean, creating a thread that has your name on it and using it for "smart-ass" purposes is not the same as disrupting someone else's thread.
If someone posts obnoxious stuff on the Religion board that is off-topic, yeah, I'm gonna delete it, and have done so.
But you'll notice that beneath the "Created by" header on the main thread list page in the religion board you'll find the name JAC.
That gives me the right.
Anyone else who creates a board here would have the same right, and I think it applies on the other boards, too.

I have a solution. You could unpucker your ass and allow different threads and different opinions. Let's not pretend this was a well oiled machine until all that comic stuff went down. This has been coming for awhile and it's on both sides.

Hey JAC - - I tried to help Chrisfan out over in HER section - -she wouldn't have it -- kept deleting my sincere attempts at communicating to her, and lend a hand.

I even created a bonafide CE-related board about how Bush is handling the war, but no one responded, not even Chrisfan, who is the one I honestly was trying to draw OUT and away from the madness, and to begin quietly proceeding with earnest CE discussions.

She obviously has it out for me, and like a child, stubbornly refuses to accept my hand that reached out to her, of my own accord.

Therefore, I will take up your generous offer to create new threads here, and you may rest assured they will not be "ASsClown" threads meant to disrupt or jackoff all over the place . . . unless, of course, I suddenly feel like creating a thread for that very purpose.

So, I'm going to move my How Is Bush Handling The War thread over here, where it will get the respect it deserves.

Someone should have filled us all in on what "thread" means...
On most boards it means "TOPIC", but I guess around here folks are expected to post on one board.

Okay, my Natalee Holloway board just got shut down. It's not big deal, really, but it's just silly to say that a discussion like that needs to be moved elsewhere.

Proboards are built for multiple threads about MANY topics to be put into each board. It's the way these things work, and it's what they're designed for. The old RS boards were made for many topics in each thread...it's not like that here. Why do you think so many boards were crashing after a hundred or so pages? They're not designed for that kind of abuse.

The CE board, especially with all the mess it's in, SHOULD be an open forum for multiple threads that stick to the board topic. It's the nature of this place, and I can give a quick link or two to other Proboard message boards so you can see how they are supposed to be run and how they are designed to work.
