hey Thornius, I've been completely overhauling my diet recently (not that I was ever really a bad eater, I actually eat very well) as a result of reading some very interesting/disturbing research on the link between saturated/trans fat & mental illness & have cut out refined/processed foods & sugars as best I can (ie using raw brown sugar or honey in place of it for tea, coffee etc). Never thought I could live without sugar, but I am & have to say, its working. I even unintentionally lost a tiny bit of weight. I could actually stand to put some on, but its always nice to have a smaller ass stare back at you from the mirror. I've actually not felt this healthy in a while, and I'm generally a fit person who eats loads of veg, fruit & fish anyway. thought you'd appreciate my newfound 'say no to sugar' campaign, in light of your own sugar ban last year

Awesome La ! *Yesss* / *tightens fist signifying a small triumph*
I am sooo glad to hear that. I've falled on & off, in & out of the rhythm of just saying "no" to refined sugar. For the first year, I was hardcore: cold turkey, no compromises. Then I started. . . . ahem, 'cheating' a tad. But in all fairness, it's not 'cheating' so much as merely keeping that shit in check. It would be better I s'pose if our intakes of refined sugar were literally ZERO, but my goal is to reduce that intake to a fitting & very low percentage.
We're a society whose having been overtaken by increasing doses of refined sugar has been a gradual process. To the point that, we do not acknowledge (nor are we barely aware of) that the percentage of refined sugar we consume has risen dramatically from less than one percent (during the 50s) annually, to a whopping 30 or 40% . . . or some equally outrageous number. My goal is merely to get that percentage back down to under 1%.
If I ever manage to get it to ZERO, all the better. But I'm not too worried about that...

I thought I'd add that, not only are we a society whose refined-sugar intake has increased dramatically in the last 60 years, but this consumption has spread throughout an enormous contingency of our overall available foodstuffs (it's in everything), and furthermore, (and most importantly) the average person today has literally no idea -- no clue whatsoever -- just how effectively this creeping rise in refined sugar intake has reduced us to the modern day, realistic counterpart to zombies. Straight-the-fuck-UP, bitches. All of you ! ! ! fucking ZOMBIES ! ! ! ! *laffs hysterically*
I wouldn't be laffing at all if I didn't have a seriously disturbed sense of humor.
*deadpan stare*

Lordy I'm excited. If there's any writer alive today I'd sell my soul to, it would be Attanasio. This new collection of short stories - signed by the author -!yay!- will be arriving on my chilly doorstep about the first week in November. I can't wait to begin reading these stories.

I s'pose I'd let Attanasio & Alan Moore split up my soul between them.

Attanasio is like, the holy grail of contemporary genre authors, to me. This is a beautiful & chilling book.
