That would be cool, Thorny. I've been reading fiendishly lately (for a change) and felt like jabbering about it. Just finished these two...
Oh man, I love this book. I sought this out after becoming addicted to the TV show it spawned, "Dexter". If you haven't heard of it before, Dexter is a Miami PD blood-spatter analyst who's also a serial killer. And I love him, not only because he's smart, witty and a bad MF, but he's just so damn gentlemanly. Dexter was taught at an early age by his foster father, who was also a cop and recognized Dex's sociopathic tendencies, that if he must kill, then at least take out the trash. So he does. Child molesters, murderers, rapists... if they somehow fall through the cracks of the Miami criminal justice system, they still haven't got off easy; they risk showing up on Dexter's radar. The cheerfulness he exudes while dismembering a body is nothing short of chilling, and the writer often sets up this demonic, alliterative rhythm that makes you feel as if you're rushing along a pumping bloodvein. Awesome.
Hopefully the first season of Dexter will be out on DVD soon, and I *will* own it. The show more than did justice to the book. Plus he kills a whole lot more people on the show.
Creepy. This girl doesn't "see dead people", but she can sense them. They don't come to her as ghosties or anything -- she just knows when there is a dead body nearby and if she gets close enough, she sees their last few moments and can tell right away what killed them. It turns out to be a lucrative business, but the same people who hire her for her services usually don't want to hear what she has to say. She's an interesting protagonist: smart, sharp, strong, somber and not beneath some ass-whuppin', but she's freakishly dependent upon her stepbrother and damn near has panic attacks whenever she is kept away from him. This is the first in a series and twisted though it is, I hear these two might grow to like each other just a liiiittle bit too much in later books. It'll be interesting.
And damn if I'm not salivating for this next one. Just got it, ready to sink my fangs into it. I think the cover is just gorgeous. Plus J.R. Ward gave it a quote and she's my goddess. I can't wait.
