At least there's no snow to contend with on top of sleep loss. At least I don't think we're due for any snow.

OK, I made it in here this morning but I can already tell this is going to be murder when the series shifts to Calgary.

Hockey Fan Vents Frustration on the Road
By CAROLYN THOMPSONAssociated Press Writer Published January 14, 2005, 9:55 AM CST BUFFALO, N.Y. -- A hockey fan disgruntled by the NHL lockout is taking his frustration to the streets. "I need my hockey fix(ed)" reads the newest version of those familiar magnetic car ribbons that express everything from national pride to cancer awareness. Creator Doug Sitler got fed up watching millionaire players and owners squabble while the only ice time for fans this winter has been scraping windshields. "Here's these two powerful big-money organizations fighting and the fans are left in the dark," he said. The magnet is black with orange trim and lettering, like the NHL logo. The slogan sends a dual message: Fans miss hockey and want the sport fixed. "I thought why not express my frustrations using a pop culture phenomenon?" Sitler said. The fact that he sold more than 2,000 magnets soon after their introduction showed him there are a lot of like-minded fans. Sitler was actually more flattered than annoyed when someone swiped the magnet off his car. And it's been fun watching them pop up around town. "The first person I saw who had one was a 70-year-old woman in a Lexus," he said. "I think it's a good idea to keep it fresh in everybody's mind that the fans miss hockey," said Kate Resetarits, who stuck a magnet on her car. There's no worry at the moment that hockey will resume and render the magnets obsolete. On Friday, the lockout was in its 121st day. No talks have been scheduled since Dec. 14, when the NHL rejected a players' association proposal and its own counteroffer was turned down. "I haven't seen one glimmer of hope in any of these months of talking," Sitler said. "Unfortunately, it doesn't look like there will be any hockey unless a miracle happens -- and I hope that does happen. I really want hockey. I'll go nuts." * __ On the Net: www.hockeyribbon.com

Don't even get me started on the NHL lockout, Doc... Gary Bettman (and the owners) sucks the big one (IMO), and they're going to have to explain how they destroyed hockey in the US. Granted, I'm from a hockey loving state, and hockey is my favorite sport. I grew up playing, watching, reading about hockey. USA Hockey is based here. Michigan has more registered hockey players than any other state (Minnesota is 2nd).
The NHL shot itself in the foot bigtime, IMO. What few people in the US that gave a shit, don't care anymore....I'll state, clearly for the record, that I'm in the players corner on this...the owners, after all, do sign the contracts...
The demise of the NHL?...

I'm all for blaming the owners except that I think that it lets the players off the hook too much.
The lockout was caused by the players being unreasonable..
The lockout continues because the owners are being unreasonable.
Both sides are to blame in this, and it seems to be a pretty unfixable situation at this point. It's sad to those of us in Michigan (and probably in several parts of Canada), but I think people elsewhere really couldn't care less.

The lockout was caused by the players being unreasonable.. The lockout continues because the owners are being unreasonable. There’s a lot of factors that led to this situtation and have kept it going, not the least of which is player suspicions that the owners are hiding huge profits somewhere while poor-mouthing to them and the media. However, if we’re going to talk actual cause, then that responsibility lies with Bettman and the owners. They set the terms here; 'no salary cap by midnight, September 15 – we lock you out'. I’d agree, though, that it continues now due to the owners being unreasonable. Although, that said, I suspect the Players’ Association had good reason to believe that the owners would reject the 25% salary rollback before they ever put it on the table.

So is there any pressure from outside to resolve this matter?
Surely fans would be more up in arms over this disparaging strike more than the one guy selling magnets to voice his displeasure? TV-stations who have contracts with teams lose millions....the sponsors with long-term commitments, sometimes not only with teams but also with players....surely they are firing off lawsuit after lawsuit?
What really surprises me that this isn't the first time a hockeyseason got cancelled because of a long-term dispute over money...the fans seem to forgive their clubs for a lot of things, don't they? How are the clubs gonna repair the damage to their fans this time? Hope time heals all wounds, I suppose...perhaps a bit of a discount on their season tickets?
Hope Gretzky is wrong in stating that this thing could cost two seasons....too bad after a good season last year.

A few years back when the Montréal Canadians gave Patrick Roy 4 million U.S. dollars a year to stop hockey pucks I told myself it could not have happened to a better guy ...
I've never watch another hockey game after that ...

We had Stan Kasten(680thefan is the home of the Atlanta Thrashers) on the show,to discuss his plan he submitted Stan thinks the lack of effort and communication is the biggest problem facing a resolution
I think the owners and players both have disagreements on their OWN sides, some wanted to take the last proposal, but weren't willing to cross their own unions at a weaker stature. It's basically done for the season if you had talked to some of the Thrasher Management as I do they would say as much,No One sees any progress in the near future And the chances of a new a league forming are starting to become more realistic each day the lockout continues
The funny thing about the Thrashers is this was going to be their year to cross-over with a fringe base of hockey customers(not fans yet) All Star Game-GONE Possable Playoff Team-GONE Best Young Talent in the NHL-Playing Overseas
Could have been a dissapointment,if we somehow do get a shorten season Heatley-eye injury has a patch right now Ilya-commited to playing in Russia, the rest of this season Kari Lehtonen-hurt himself in a pickup game would miss another 2 months right now
Still Sucks

As cancerous as Bill Wirtz has been to hockey in general here, do NOT leave out Chicago please....the AHL Wolves are doing very good business lately...
...and NYC, Philly, Boston are also great hockey towns!

I gotta agree with Drum's comments. I just believe the owners hold the responsibility for flushing the NHL down the toilet...and it sucks.

Man THIS HURTS TODAY
Myself and my Thrashers friends today feel like the NHL kicked us in the gut today after all the positve build-up to a solution
We now enter the idea of oblivion
GOOD JOB BETTMAN YOUR ONLY APART BY 4 MILLON DOLLARS, AND YOU CANCEL THE SEASON
YOU COULD HAVE DELAYED FOR MORE TIME,ALL WE NEEDED WAS 2 MORE WEEKS
