Yeah, but the point I was making was that not all teams are like that (thank God), and Greece winning was a 250-1 odds freak result. Normally more creative teams would break down their defence. It was a strange tournament.
You ought to sit down with a video of the match between Holland and the Czechs and watch a 3-2 game with lots of incident, five goals from open play, and over 40 shots on target. It was a superb advert for the sport.

Phil sets up the straw-man(ironic, eh?) and then knocks him down triumphantly...

Gee whizz, talk about abandoning something....
Yeah, watched the soccer religiously but the early mornings, very busy circumstances at work and the flu weren't very helpful to keep my promise to write those diaries. Bugger!
FWIW, I thought the games themselves were quite good, certainly a lot of highlights (Italy-Sweden, Holland-Czech Republic) and a lot of surprises indeed.
Wish I couls change the header of this board to Soccer 2004-2005, now that the competitions in Europe are about to start again. Perhaps Strat can fix that up, please?
One thing- Brasil is the luckiest team ever after that undeserved win of the Copa America!

Somehow I feel like tlking to myself but who knows...
Sooo happy the World Game in Europe has kicked off for another season! It looks like many competitions are fairly open, although the season start of Arsenal might lead to the prediction that they are in awesome form and will take one hell of a beating to be surpassed for the title in the Premiership.
As a Liverpool-supporter I still have to come to terms with the bleeding gap in my chest where Michael Owen tore my heart out. Dude has every right just before his contract runs out at Merseyside to chase gold and (European) dreams, but why with that multimillion dollar-outfit Real, who look less and less like a team and more like an exclusive country club?
