Been trampled underfoot the whole day by people all of a sudden wanting to buy a Michael Jackson-CD...what up wit dat?

The racks in my shop were an impromptu meeting place for fans and tears were shed. It was quite bizarre really to see people saying they were fans and needing CDs all of a sudden. Within 2 hours I had sold the lot. Many people upset that we had sold out but what can you do?

I'm not the biggest fan around but I do like Jackson's music a lot. He was on top of the world in the 80s and his fall from grace was as spectacular as his rise to fame too. I grew up with Off The Wall, Thriller and Bad and have seen him play live...as an artist he was quality. For that I can tryuly ay that his death is a massive shock.

I was absolutely floored when I heard MJ was dead -- in part b/c he as just 50.

You're not supposed to die from a coronary when you're just 50.

Anyway...I have been a little too harsh on Jackson. I confess it. The truth is that he really was influential artist and he was the agent of much change. On the strength of a song/video ("Billie Jean"), NOT a promotional blitz, he forever changed the face of MTV and paved the way for black artists to gain exposure through that medium (at a time when heavy rotation on the channel, or the lack of it, could make or break a performer). And let's not forget USA for Africa, a project he had a HUGE part in (he wrote the song, his influence drew several of the A-list performers to participate in the video, I think the whole thing was his idea, him and maybe Quincy Jones, I don't remember).
