I personally can not find one thing I hate about chrisfan.
I put up a list that was intended to show that - - and I'm sorry that she took it the wrong way. I even PM'd her a sincere apology. Then I decided to apologize to everyone else on her behalf. I did not intend to "insult" or degrade or cast in any ill light by posting that list- - I was making a joke about taking "Ten Things I Hate about Chrisfan", so naturally I thought it soooo clever to list things she wore.
This was a sincere effort on my behalf to show everyone that thoRny won't play no reindeer hate games, and that I actually think chrisfan is a good person. We may misunderstand each other - - but that is only natural considering the extreme differences of our political/religious/social orientations.
Personally, I've lightened up a hell of a lot since the older, harsher "flame war" days. I know that war will always be handed down to the next successive generation of posters, but I for one do not wish to behave in an uncivil fashion with chrisfan.
In any case, the nature of this apology is sincere. I don't hate chrisfan - - we are merely misunderstood, and that is okay.
*I am saving a copy of this post, so that if chrisfan deletes it, I may then re-post it, with the slight possibility that I might compile the 1 Reason I Hate Chrisfan, which would become her inability to accept that I am trying to reach out to her sincerely. I would think she is a cultured enough lady to dismiss all past misunderstandings & realize that I was only trying to patch things up, make friends, in my own way*

Shit. I accidentally hit the "modify" button when I meant to hit the "quote" button on Straw's post. Straw, I apologize, because I meant to only quote one of your points, and it means the others were deleted. Now I realize that you said you weren't coming back, so you probably won't even know this happened. But I apologize for screwing that up, and if you do see this and want to put the rest back in, please do.

9. I rarely (OK I have never, but that doesn't mean one of your multitude of posts wasn't ) see you post on a music board....your obvious disdain to be drawn to the one thing we apparently all have in common has me believing that you don't share the same passion for music that the rest of us do....And if you do, I don't think somehow that we would have any music that we like in common.... This is not a response to Strawman, because he told me not to respond to him. This is a response to anyone else who may read this and say "Hell yeah to #9!!!" The overwhelming majority (like, all I think?) of people who post here are here because we found our way to Rolling Stone's boards. The majority of people who posted there were drawn to those boards because of a love for music. Not even a love - a passion for music. But Rolling Stone is not a "passion for music only" magazine, and therefore, it drew some people to the site who were not passionate about music. Do I love music? Absolutely. Do I have the same passion for music that some of the others around here do? No. Do I enjoy discussing music with other fans? Yes. But I really don't enjoy discussing music with some of the people around here. For one, a lot of the bands which I adore, The Clarks as an example, most people around here have never heard of. But the bigger reason why I don't post much about music around here - the few times that I have, my opinions have been mocked by a few people who think that if you don't view music the way they do, then you just need to keep your thoughts to yourself. A lot of my music tastes aren't the same as many around here. I know I've heard of Wilco, and I'm pretty damn sure that I've heard some of their songs, but I've got to honestly tell you that if I hear the name Wilco, there is not a single song that pops into my head. That is sacrilige enough to a few around here that it would automatically eliminate my "right" to discuss music. When Ken was compiling the "best North American band" list, I came up with my list. I enjoyed thinking it over. But I never posted it. I never posted it because I was not in the mood to get the kind of mocking responses about it that I've received before when I participated in music discussions here. I get knocked from time to time for my political views. I even get knocked for the friendships I share around here, and the topics viewed as boring by some. Being mocked for those things does not bother me in the slightest, because I am passionate about my political views and interests, and I am passionate about my friends. But I'm just not passionate enough about my music for it to be worth the mocking. There you have it ... the reason I don't participate on many music boards ... because I'd rather listen to Van Halen or Def Lepard then Wilco or Midnight Oil.

Chrisfan, in all seriousness, I don't think your list would have at all been mocked by anyone on Ken's board. Can't say for certain you wouldn't have got some jabs in Top 10 or something, but I really think your post would have been welcomed there, and if you compile another list for one of his other list boards, you really should post it.
Um...and I have no agenda or whatever in this post, other than getting more people to post and more diversity posted on the list boards.

You're probably right Luke. It's just one of those things where one or two bad experiences just jade you, you know? But you are right, and I may reconsider in the future.

Yeah, I gotcha. And FWIW, Van Halen certainly would have made my list if there was just a way to eliminate Van Hagar...

And I'd take Van Hagar over the David Lee Roth days any day!

Van Hagar sucked so bad I could feel it.

See, that proves it. If it wasn't for Amp, I'd post on music boards! But in all seriousness, let's be real and not forget my history. I started posting at Rolling Stone because of NSync, NOT music.

Chrisfan -- I can't speak for anyone else, but on my list boards (and there will be at least two more of 'em) everyone is welcome. Seriously. I welcome all opinions on these topics. I think you'll find that most of the regular music folks here are a little less likely to start throwing mud without at least some provocation.
Now if you seriously put Def Lepard at the top of your UK band list, well I'll have some words for you there! But seriously, I started those boards precisely b/c I wanted to be able to have music related discussions that wouldn't just devolve into mud slinging. Legitimate criticism of THE BAND IN QUESTION is fine -- Clubber got me to say some nasty crap about the Doors, but he wanted to know why I didn't like them -- but actually attacking the poster is out of the question. Quite simply, I've got a "play nice" policy, and if I have to, I'll make sure it's followed.
So please, give us a list on the Greatest British Bands thread ... whoever you nominate, it can't be any goofier than some of the acts already in contention!

Oh yeah, if I have to listen to Van Halen, I'd much rather hear Van Hagar, or at least something from 1984 rather than from Diamond Dave's younger days.
And Chrisfan, if you can't come up with fifteen bands you feel comfortable nominating, just stop at five or ten or thirteen or whatever. There's no rule that says you can't put fewer than the maximum entries into play. Hell, I think I used the three names that Strawman threw out for the US list as his entire contribution. So you've got the rest of today to get your list in ... I'll start posting results tomorrow ... maybe some early returns later tonight.

Thanks Ken! I may or may not. But I will say this - even when I don't contribute, I enjoy reading everyone's lists.

I'd love nothing more than to have to score lists from everyone who posts here. The more the merrier, at least for this sort of thing.

Fortunately, I think I always caught it in time and backed up. The buttons are right next to each other and look just alike. And I'd like to add my voice to the sentiment that nobody would seriously mock your list. At least I'd be awfully surprised! But back to the topic, I hate the way you typo " when you really want a ' for a contraction. That just chafes my ass.
