Cox must be much better wherever you were, because I pretty much despise them around here. I'd love to switch to satellite, but I worry about slower Internet.
The worst part about Cox, though, is the commercials with that animated douchebag in the blue sweater. I'd love to hop in the TV and punch that guy right in the face.

Yes, I can't say I miss that dude. I just loved the fact that their customer service people would hook you up with specials and reduced rates even when you didn't ask for them. I'd call because a channel wasn't working, and the next thing I knew, the channel would be fixed, and I'd have free HBO for 3 months. 3 months later when I'd call to cancel the HBO before I had to pay for it, I'd end up with a reduced rate on my internet, Starz, and HBO. They always have specials going, and you don't have to ask to get them.
THIS is becoming my new pet peeve that could put me over the edge with Comcast ... the way their DVR is set, it considers some programs on Bravo to be new, even if it is not hte first run of the show. It records Project Runway for me about 18 times in a week. This week, I completely missed Wednesday's Big Brother, and missed the first 15 minutes of Lost because my DVR chose to record a Project Runway I'd already seen as my second show to record instead of the real brand new shows that I wanted to see. I"m going to have to call and complain to them about that this weekend. But I bet I don't get free Showtime like I would have done with Cox.

Anyone watch "Intervention" here? I've been watching the show lately and it is just so raw and real. Definitely helps me stay clean and sober. The shows with the IV drug users bother me the most. I shudder watching those poor addicts play the ol' hit and miss trick with the needles. Cringe and shudder. And thank the light its not me!
Anyone watching Deal Or No Deal's million $$$ mission? 12 cases with the million at last count and naught a winner yet.

Chrisfan: do you rent your DVR machine from the cable company? I currently pay for mine monthy due from being told that if I didn't go with the machine they specified that they couldn't gtd what I'd pick up from Best Buy or whatever would pick up all of their channels or perform correctly. I'd really like to know the in's & out's on that 'cause I sure as hell don't see why I just couldn't go out and get the same model they set me up with.
I caught a few episodes of Intervention a couple years back when it made its debut...."fell off the wagon" with it for some reason or the other. I remember my girlfriend's sister got a lot out of it as she had a son with a substance abuse problem. Made her get in his head a bit better PLUS let her realize she wasn't alone.....
Current TV trackings:
Lost Eli Stone Survivor Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles Breaking Bad Anthony Bourdain/No Reservations Reaper Monk
Looking forward to Sunday to finally see what Dexter is all about too as it comes to network TV.

Yes, my service is straight through the cable company. I pay a monthly fee, and it covers the DVR service and the box rental. My sister (also on Comcast) does the same, but has DVR on 3 different TVs, and the price she pays for TVs 2 and 3 is less, because its considered to only be the box rental.

Looking forward to Sunday to finally see what Dexter is all about too as it comes to network TV. I'm *thrilled* about Dexter coming to CBS. Now everyone can get hooked like me. ;D I'm just hoping it won't lose too much of its edge having gone through edits for network TV; I'm a little nervous about that. It is a great, great show.

Anyone been watching AMC's Breaking Bad? I've caught up on the first three episodes so far and it's proving to be outstanding. Easily up there with my other two cable shows Rescue Me and The Shield.

Is anyone else watching John Adams on HBO? I am totally mesmerized by it. So much so that I'm tempted to re-read the book. As unattractive as Paul Giamatti is, I think I'm even developing a bit of a crush on John Adams. They are doing an incredibly great job with it. I love the way they are characterizing each of the people as Adams saw them rather than as history sees them. For example, Thomas Jefferson being portrayed as somewhat snooty and full of himself rather than as a near superhero. And the man who is playing George Washington might as well be Washington himself. The only hang up I may have with the entire production is that i don't know if I like the theme music quite enough to listen to it when EVERY mini-series award is handed out for the Emmys, Golden Globes, SAG Awards, and every other awards show that covers TV.

nope...no 'premium' channels here. but this: About 'America the Wright Way'
Watch Mondays, at 8 p.m. ET/PT
In any situation there is a right way and a wrong way to do things. So if you want to learn about the most fascinating travel experiences in the United States, then there's really only one way to find out -- ask the most traveled man on the planet what he thinks.
Ian Wright will take a unique look at the U.S. and its most popular tourist destinations. From Music City to the Big Easy, from Vegas to the Big Apple, Ian's no-nonsense style offers a refreshing look at America.
In each episode Ian will try to capture the heart of each city. He'll meet people who work, live and play in each location. Through them, he'll uncover each city's unique character.
Ian will travel to Chicago, where he gets the blues, and Nashville, where he finally understands country music. In New York he gets mixed up with the paparazzi, and in New Orleans he learns to differentiate Creole from Cajun. His journey will then take him to Las Vegas, where Ian experiences life beyond the neon, and to Miami, where he discovers there's more to Florida than sun, sea and Mickey Mouse.
Join Ian Wright as he travels across the U.S.A., Mondays, at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
we liked this guy's hosting stints on globetrekker SO much that we considered naming our son 'ian'...i just watched this new one and being a native of this town, the premiere show of the series went for some easy marks, but wright STILL mananged to make them personal to himself. his enjoyment is nearly always apparent. cannot wait for the nyc installment...

The John Adams run on HBO had some good write-ups and if I carried any movie channels it'd be something I'd tune into. Wonder if it's on my pay-per-view.... Years back I used to have Cinimax pirated but even for free I never seemed to watch it. Just not a person to invest time into movies like I think I would...
Speaking of things Presidential, I DID watch part one last night of a PBS "Frontline" called Bush's War that delved into the background into ramping up for the Iraq invasion. Cheney makes me sick to my stomach even more now, let alone GW. Mindblowing the manipulations that went on... Part Two airs tonight and I'm sure PBS stations will probably be doing repeats of it later in the week/weekend.

Ayinger ... I watched *Bush's War - for the second time - last night ...
It's terrible to see how unprepared the U.S. were to deal with the aftermath of Saddam's demise in Irak ...
It almost look like Bremmer and Rumsfeld did everything in their (immense!)power to make sure that anything that could be fucked up with Irak would be ...

I caught the second half too....only strengthened my gut-wretching. Tieing all those administration heads to posts and shooting them at dawn would be too good for 'em....better to yank 'em to a desert (hmmm...I have in mind too), peg them down in the sand and let the ants pick at them.

I'd like to see the "John Adams" series too, but we don't get HBO, so will have to wait... We have been enjoying "The Tudors" and are glad the new season is finally under way! Yes, the historical accuracy is a little um, stretched, but enough to keep it interesting. I guess I'm weird that way.

The 50 Greatest Comedy Sketches of all timeThere's no more sure-fire way to kill something's intrinsic comedic value than to try to examine what makes it funny. The minute you start thinking, you stop laughing. So why, then, have Nerve and IFC.com devoted an enormous amount of time, manpower, monetary resources, server space and posh catered lunches to the pursuit of ranking the boob tube's finest sketch comedy offerings? In part, we're here because magical new technology (*coughYouTubecough*) allows us to do more than just pontificate for paragraphs on end — now we can pontificate for paragraphs on end and provide audio-visual evidence to back up those pontifications. We provide the context, share our thoughts and feelings and let you commence with the guffawing and, naturally, the disagreeing. After all, the comedy sketch — short, sweet, completely silly or shot through with social commentary — worms its way into the public mind like nothing else, and has easily made the leap to the web when other forms have faltered. ...read more www.nerve.com/dispatches/nerveeditors/50GreatestComedySketches/01/
