ah shit!! I was just thinking about that Ernie Kovacs' skit (#7) earlier this week -- can't believe to run across it on that list.

Phil got me going on classic comedy sketches and I re-searched YouTube for a long remembered Marty Feldman skit that someone finally put up! I give you Marty taking his 'monster' to the vet's: www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlPAVm8Gl6M

"Abby Normal?"...
So, who loves "Cash Cab"? I do, I do! Except, I think it would be better if, at the end, if the contestants decline the double-or-nothing video challenge, they should have to watch and see if they knew it or not. You know, possibly give them a little "quitter's remorse."

In another century ... There was this ... Then we had this ... But reality is always STRANGER than fiction ... Or is it ...??

It truly was. I thought so in April, too, but I was in too big of a funk to say so at the time.
So... TeeVee... Well, I always felt a kind of kindred spirit with those folks who said, "We don't have a TV," but in truth, I was planning to finally purchase a widescreen, flat panel TV last year, when suddenly, Oooff!, the job was gone. Then, not losing the house et al became a much bigger priority.
...After the first meager payday from my new job, we decided to go on and make good on the promise to ourselves. So, I am now the proud owner of a 42" Samsung plasma HDTV. We got out for less than 8 bills, and upgraded to HD cable, same channels we had (Charter with only a few premiums) for like $5 a month. ...There's no going back, folks. Not an option. HD is so much superior to standard that there is no comparison. Well, I'm sure the bigger screen helps, but it's pretty amazing.
I think we are fast headed for a world like that of the aliens in the original Star Trek series episode, where the Butthead people use their power of illusion to create scenarios for the humans to enact, so that they can watch them and live vicariously through them... Spock! Don't go there - it's the only death penalty left on the books!
Anyhow, I think you see where I'm going with this... Smoke 'em if you got 'em...

we inherited an old (20+ years old!) mitsubishi 48" rear projection set when we bought our house almost 2 years ago, because the guy simply didn't want to move it (about half the size of a vw bug, it is...ok, a third then) and we're definitely salivating, especially when we see or friends' 60 incher plasma (best choice strat!) playing something like transformers...but the picture here honestly can still be dialed in just so...lighter and more contrast-y for basketball, darker for hockey...oh, and for the rest of the entertainment spectrum (little einsteins, curious george and bob the builder mostly)it can be 'put right' quite satisfactorily.
tho we're just WAITING for the thing to wreck itself so we can go to best buy!

Oh, HD is unreal. On landscapes, ariel shots, architecture, and other detail-type stuff, it actually seems like 3-D. It makes that much difference. And yeah - plasma is the thing. Beautiful colors and contrasts, and no creepy effects with motion like you can get with LCD. You do have to plan your ambient lighting to not give you a reflection off the screen - that's the only advantage I can see to LCDs, and gosh, we've been dealing with that for as long as there have been TeeVees.

i wished we had HD for last night's olympic opening in beijing.
UNbeLIEVable!
i still haven't seen all of it, but taped the 2:30am replay from nbc to watch later.
missed the so-called 'prime-time live' on network because i had to be at the hospital for my dad, who'll be in hospice in a coupla days (and bow, thanks for the well-wishes on 'listening')...but that's another story.
the thought to me is that i hope to god that china who is SO on the ball in so many ways, gets their shit together in those areas where they're obviously so sorely lacking, because they could be so great as a force for GOOD.
but is their's another case for having to have a strong hand guiding them by whatever means possible because anything else would be unmanageable?
like fucking iraq under sadam hussein?

"i wished we had HD for last night's olympic opening in beijing."
It was incredible indeed! I've been watching a lot of the Olymic coverage. It's fantastic. The level of detail is amazing.

The whole Olympic shebang is absolutely AMAZING in HD... watching the swimming last night I seriously felt like I could have copped a surge of water from the pool... HD just makes the whole thing come to life - looking forward to some of the events which take you places - marathon running, some of the rowing events, and other events that take you around the city of Beijing... some of the panaramic shots are going to look amazing - I hope the organising committee did its homework and chose some scenic backdrops to its outdoor events... I've no doubt they probably have.
