Thanks, stratman! It's been quite a lot of work already just getting the creek visible from the deck, with careful extrication of offending weed-tree tops and vines. Don't want the view to look too messed-with and unnatural, but I do want to see it, if possible! It doesn't show up very well in the pics, but it looks pretty cool! And Cassie feels much better now - thanks, Sassy, and your pet people! Exposing more of elusive Strat Creek. Far left, new creekage; far right, pools and sand bar. It's about 50' away - mostly down...

Hey, Phil, remember how much I liked the fireplace in your old house? Check this baby out - it wasn't built for looks, nor to burn one of those little Duraflame® logs in, eh?

Holy smokes, Strat!
Shane was right, that distance down ta tha crik is vertigo-inducing!
But man, that's cool! Nothing like a little topographical eccentricity to spice up a homesite...
Are there some sort rustic stairs imbedded in the 'hillside'(or is it 'cliffside'?)to take you down?
Or do you just slide down on your ass? Like Indiana Jones and Kathleen Turner, was it? Wait, that was the other one with Michael Douglas, wasn't it?
You definitely got a diamond in the rough there, buddy! Congrats. ;D

Well, it's not that bad, but you could do the "Romancing the Stone" thing. In some places the slope is much more gentle.
But stairs are also in the works. To the north of the house there is a huge downed pine tree. The stump is at the creek and the trunk lies along the ground all the way up the hill, not too far off the driveway. The trunk is close to 3 ft. I'm going to use a chainsaw to cut steps into the tree all the way down. I'll anchor the top with a small cement footing, just to keep it from wiggling. Then I'll put up a 2X4 handrail and maybe some landscape lights. It should really rock Even though the old gal couldn't continue to live and grow there, she'll still fulfill a vital need, just as she did before. I wonder what took that tree down... There are only a few pine trees on the property - but many hardwoods.

I was going to post some pics at Shane's new The Place Where You Live board, but imagetown struck again. I guess I'm going to have to figure out what's wrong with my ftp site before going through the trouble of uploading any more images..

While filing some old pictures, I came upon old inter-negatives and the small contact proof that came with them ... One day I'm gonna get a scanner that really do transparencies !! Borgia Gardens in Roma Old Barge in Carcassonnes Fruits Market in Athens Olives ...

Just got in from Las Vegas last night. I didn't take a lot of pictures and most of them didn't come out very well, but here are a few snaps. The aerial pics are the most interesting to me. Vegas is such a circus! I played some video poker but didn't win this time. Play slow; drink free - you come out about even. But after two visits I'm still up by about 50 bucks overall on the gambling. I stay away from the slots and the tables. Here's the lion outside the MGM. This guy is huge; use the handrail for scale: I think this one is the Mandalay: The Eiffel Tower outside the Paris:

And the aerials... Here is a nice mountain with more of the range in the background: Part of Lake Meade: Several of the Grand Canyon:

Leaving Las Vegas: looking back at the strip as we took off.

strato, the second pic is actually the Excalibur, not Mandalay Bay. Mandalay Bay is the big gold one all the way at the end of the Strip. Excalibur is a couple casinos down.
I wish I still got excited about being on the Strip. After living here for six years I avoid it at all costs. But sometimes, when I walk out on my patio and look out over the valley, sometimes the Strip still manages to take my breath away. Sometimes.
