I don't have nearly the same level of contempt for Albini as you do, but I can't help but think when he works with a band it's more about making it "sound Albini", than simply helping the band bring out new sounds.
It's funny how he's dissed Surfer Rosa over the years when asked, yet it was well done largely because he showed a little fucking restraint.

How does The Strokes-album hold up for you, Jesus?
RocDoc- I like Ozomatli too, but I actually prefer their seminal first album, which sounds a bit rawer...but that's no substitute for hearing this band live because they are mindblowing. I don't find the rap-influences awkward but I do prefer the more merengue-styled uptempo songs where the band flows in the same vein the Pogues flow in their jigs and reels.... I only ever heard Cafe Tacuba's first album and, to the best of my memory, it sounded more rock-like. Am I right? At the time I also listened to bands like Amistades Peligrosas, Mamonas Assasinas and Chico Cesar...good, hectic rockmusic...so how have they developed?
I picked up Tori Amos' DVD Welcome To Sunny Florida and that one's playing now...also got a copy in of a certain Mr. Cave's new album.....

How does The Strokes-album hold up for you, Jesus? It's pretty much how I remembered it. Nice enough and with some good hooks, if a little dull and samey when taken as a whole. I like that effect on Casablancas' voice a hell of a lot, though some might say it's overused. Yeah, the production on Surfer Rosa is fine and dandy.

I would be one who totally thinks the vocal effect is overused. Way overused.

Hold up Luke when did I say I disliked Sparta all I said was they benefit from Rage breaking up actually I quite enjoyed "Wiretap Scars" Glasshouse Tarot and Collapse are on par with ATDI 's best moments Porcelin hasn't quite grabbed my attention yet but it has 2 nods to Mars Volta with intros that bridge into one track it's not a weak album it's I respect ATDI so much my expectations are probabley higher than others **yells from rooftop** Quit hateing on the Strokes Room 0n Fire is much like a Ramones album it only strays from the formula ocassionally like say "Under Control" which is a classic crooner balland and watch out for the Clash/GBV influence on the 3rd album it will be out mid 05 supposedly. Jesus I think the pitchfork review was dead on the appeal of the Libertines have you read it yet? or are you gunshy after they trashed Razorlight

Holy shit, Jesus! You lucky English bastards, I wish we'd had that Strokes art-work.
Why, it's downright Strokes-worthy (bahahaha!!!)

BTW, patten, its ME who doesn't like Sparta. For all the same-old "ATDI-lite" reasons. Sorry I wasn't so clear.

I get the same thing at home, but it's more like ... "Riley get your gin drenched, discontent banker ass out of the gas oven and make some tea will ya".
It's almost like I sing for the Strokes, but with clearer vocals, cleaner clothes, less sex appeal, and a better sense of loan to value ratio industry norms.

I think Sparta are awful.
We'll always have Relationship of Command though.
