Lila Downs is one hell of a kick ass musician/singer/arranger on this disc...such taste she displays here! I firest fell in love with her when I saw her duet with Caetano Veloso on the Oscarcast when "Frida" theme song was nominated(and sung by those two, inCREDibly!)...and this is by no means a Mexican folkloric album. Jazzy, bluesy...w/mid-eastern/Arabian touches...multi-multi-multi-layered work this is.
...the Gipsy Kings for awhile have been getting the rap that their not purist enough, not
TRUE flamenco...and no they're not. But neither are they doing a bastardized pop music flamenco lite, at least NOT on this album. There's definitely some fire happening here....
I only wish that I could find a bigger copy of the cover of this disc, it's SO cool....1940s-50s street scene, B&W photo, prob some village in Spain of flamenco being performed among throngs on the street....I want to BE there!
Cool 2-disc sampler of bossas and sambas, of which I'm just now listening to the bossa disc....very nice smooooooth groove music...that's rhythmically angular enough to keep me quite entertained

Alll of theses discs were listened to as an antidote to the taste of shit in my mouth after I listened(as my first 'Jams Of The Morning' today)this:
WHAT a fucking mistake! God, this thing simply infuriated me...what with the high marks it's gotten from some people here(and what, a 5-star review from Fricke in RS??)...
Granted I honestly do not know this band, even from their so-called halcyon days way back(call it 'generational' I suppose)...but this disc is VERY beer-coaster-worthy. What a piece of shit....
