I'm giving Lonesome Crowded West another play then, since I feel out on a limb in thinking it's distinctly average. First song's great, but I knew that already.

"Polar Opposites" is another stand out for me.
I will say that when MM are brilliant, they're so brilliant, you forget or excuse the fact that not one of their albums is completely solid end to end. Sad but true.
I wouldn't go so far as to call them inconsistent, but I still think they have a masterpiece in them that hasn't come out yet.

I dunno. "Polar Opposites" is clearly stronger than some, but I'm not sensing anything special. This is about my 9th time through this album since I first got it, I can sing half the tunes, and it still sounds like a Pixies B-side collection. Obviously it's just me and I don't get 'em.

Clearly you're a stupid arsehole for still even trying. I hope you're still not trying to appreciate Starsailor as well. Although I'm probably a bigger arsehole for taking even longer than you to figure out they were shit. Plus I haven't ever sold the disc I own by Dodgy, so I guess your persistence is far more endearing than mine.
What were we talking about again?

I still like the hidden track at the end of that Starsailor album Hidden track? Wtf? Now I have to go back and listen to that disc again, right after I had weened myself off "Good Souls". Damn you LooksLikeMe. Can I interest you in a Menswear cd by any chance? They sound just like The Smiths, except with no musical, lyrical, are general artisitic relevance. I'm also pretty sure Supergrass beat them up at Glastonbury a few years back.

haha, oh, this is so weird. this guy i met in first year at uni kept making me make him mix CDs because he only owned 2 CDs - one was starsailors "love is here" and the other was surfer rosa. out of those two he prefered love is here. i now think it might have been jesus

Could have been. Did you think he must have a baguette stuffed down his trousers?
