Investigating that Mike Keneally right now, downloading an album titled Wooden Smoke....
Ladysmith Black Mambazo are quite extraordinary, just love the blend of their voices. They don't really need anyone guesting with them....
That Bats-album is on order now....

good to see you check in, skv....how 'bout a short rundown on those bands - what sorta music, what genre maybe - in 3 words or less? por favor. man, i don't know any of those names...tho, wasn't ettinger that guy who was going out with whatshername on the old RS boards? shit, now i forgot HER name. argh. someone'll know. ~ bow, i JUST got turned onto True West, dl'ing a live bootleg of there's which was mislabelled somewhere - and i was blown away! to me they sound like all the best parts of crazy horse but with mick taylor playing the lead guitar instead of neil young. 'the big boot live at the milestone' it's callerd. holy shit, it pinned my ears back.

Dylan is from Indiana and wasn't associated with the boards. We actually share the same label, Not Not Fun records. The first band I listed is Robedoor and Britt, who owns Not Not fun records, is a member of that band.
Robedoor is really cool. It's dark, twisted psychedelic music that has a really awesome Cabaret Voltaire/Suicide vibe to it. I think this is their best record and it was grossly overlooked in 2011.
The Dylan Ettinger cassette is all synthesis stuff ala Stockhausen on this one. His new stuff is very John Foxx/Human League but his older stuff like "New Age Outlaws" is very Jean Michael Jarre. We've become fast friends and I really like his music.
Soft Metals is an electronic duo out of Portland that is very Eurythmics/Chris and Cosey. I've really enjoyed that record. Good stuff and they all have SoundClouds to check it out. soundcloud.com is a great place to search for bands and check out their tunes. Their labels or the band themselves will post tracks from their upcoming releases and it's a good way to preview stuff. Great service.

'not not fun', i like that.
ah, personal connections down the line. thanks for fleshing them out a bit...tho a little bit of electronica/electronics go a long way for me. tho i'm always up for hearing something new...i've kept hearing 'soundclound this, soundcloud taht' tho i've not explored it.
~
there for sure was a guy named jordan ettinger (finally remembered the name, same spelling) that was a guy who was some sorta personal trainer east coast somewhere, who went on and on in a (imo) pretty conceited, self-inflating way about all manner of things, tho then he hooked up with a girl who also useto post who's name now totally escapes me. he also was a musician too...or just a dabbler maybe. he of course didn't use his real name on RS but it eventually somehow came out. another one of those RS.com 'love stories', tho as i recall those 2 developed a dislike for one another after finally having some sort of a face to face relationship.
angelaweeps! THAT's who he hooked up with! her i liked but he definitely struck me a bit of a sleazy smooth talker.

gonna check out that new Bats album....
Listened to: Guided By Voices; Lets go Eat The Factory--the vinyl sounds so good and nice...there is plenty of sibilance (sp) but who cares when everything else is so good? (withholds pink floyd live at pompeii quotes) AND (about a paragraphs worth of typewritten words on how this album is important and why you should hear it)
Buddy Morrow and Orchestra- Poe For Moderns -- love this album. finally found it on CD. Ulalume.
White Duck- In Season --please PM address Don.
Monterey Pop Festival--will keep my opinions of the audio in check...dug it while it was on.
Journey-Dream, After Dream. You want to clear a room of hard partying fun loving folks so you can reflect on cloudy snowy days and romance and sandcastles and things like that?! this is the album you need! "lissen up if you don't like this you can leave NOW! What--you can't get down with "A Few Coins"? "Festival Dance" is not COOL enough for you? WHAT? I thought you were my friend!"
Love Is Contagious, Taja Seville. it is. I will never organically grow vegetables or be a semi-respectable man in any regard. but thats ok. Selfishly speaking, just as long as the sun comes up and I can breathe and this song exists if I need to listen to it, all must be right with the world. This song makes me want to be a better man. a better person. to shake off any cynicism I have inherited over the years.

"lissen up if you don't like this you can leave NOW!..."i almost lost some coffee on that one.... ~ NP: rob ickes is every bit the equal of jerry douglas in the dobro department. THERE - i said it. helluva band these guys with some VERY sophisticated musical ideas going on despite the harmonies and the 'high lonesome' vocals imprinting themselves with 'this IS bluegrass' which to some peopole is an instantaneous 'ew!' the background fills and the swirling concentrated punch of all their instruments when they're doing some bat outta hell JAM is at times absolutely breathtaking. not to be underestimated. genre snobs need not apply. like glenn said: lissen up if you don't like this you can leave NOW!.

One of these days buddy I'm just gonna show up on your front stoop with a crate of CDs and we'll spend the entire evening up until the sun comes up trading licks back & forth! Shouldn't I know Buddy Morrow?!?!? Can't find audio samples of the "Poe" album but what I did get was some nice swinging stuff --- iDEAL for sitting out on the deck background muzak! Now the Journey disc, did I send that to you or did you already have it? I'm more hedging on the latter....I actually think that was probably the first "Import" disc that I ever spent the extra cash for as years back you could only find it in Japanese pressings. IMO, the last gasp of them before Top 40 caved the roof in. Night-time Drive-time spin: ...how nice to trip down I-65 with............

ok, you made me wonder about that journey disc - a symphonic soundtrack? and with steve perry? 2004?
i dunno, there's scads of journey-with-perry fans but i sure ain't one of them..although one of the top 3 reviews at amazon did say that (apparently not effective enough) greg rolie also sings here? hmmm.
then this one's punchline tells me 'no, nothing for you. walk away':
3.0 out of 5 stars Unique Journey, September 28, 2006 By sealchan (Oregon, United States) - See all my reviews This review is from: Dream After Dream (Audio CD)
This album represents Journey's efforts at writing a soundtrack. Overall the album invokes the dreamy adolescent love mood that the movie shots from the inside sleeve suggest are appropriate. The orchestrations, apparently written by Journey, are...okay. They are emotive and powerful in that sense, but a bit simple suggesting no member of Journey was sophisticated orchestrally.
1. Destiny: This song goes from quiet to powerful and back making it interesting and progressive in style. Vocals by Steve Perry
2. Snow Theme: A quieter instrumental, moody keyboard work by Ross Valory
3. Sandcastles: Another mellower track with Steve Perry vocals
4. A Few Coins: A 42 second transitional music thought
5. Moon Theme: A deceptively off kilter guitar line makes this one interesting
6. When The Love Has Gone: A strong bluesy performance from Neal Schon
7. Festival Dance: Another 59 second transitional piece with an interesting guitar effect at the end
8. The Rape: A mainly orchestral song that simply provides mood for some scene in the movie no doubt
9. Little Girl: Good pop song with great Steve Perry vocals
This album is probably best considered as a collectible for Journey fans. It might interest some intrigued by the thought of Journey with an orchestra, but for the knowledgable progressive rocker most any other orchestra and band production will be more rewarding.

what's that I 65 album there?
jackson brown? dan fogelberg?
(just from the cover, mind you, nuttin' personal)
NP: traffic report on XRT-FM....slippin and a-slidin'!

Dream, After Dream has always been one of my favorite hidden gems of an album, esp aside for when Perry's vocals DO kick it, it'd be a hard guess for many to realize that it's JOURNEY --- even if you're familiar with the first 3 lps sans Perry. The rhythm just about swings on a few cuts (remember that drummer Steve Smith later went on to form his own jazz outfit). This was Rollie's last outing with the band too...
And frankly, the closing track "Little Girl" does have great vocals by Perry and contains easily one of my top favorite solo by Neil Schon --- a fantastic end! :
OH --- the CD that lit up my drive down I-65 was the new solo album by Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree).

aah, the wilson disc! 'little girl' definitely a nice song with that ending reminding me of how skynyrd's 'simple man' resolves into this crazy solo at its end. and schon was always one of my fave guitarists tho the context of perryjourney made him less desireable for me to say 'hang on, there's a great solo coming!'- there was too much perry-style pop(very bankable mind you but...) to sit through. and steve smith was pretty much a 4-star session guy when they hired him replacing the EXcellent aynsley dunbar (and such a great RnR name!) somewheres there. shit, i saw steve smith at the holiday star play with the 'jazz explosion all-stars' which included randy brecker, stanley clarke and freaking alan holdsworth. GOD what a show! 'A-lister' all the way, mister smiff. NP: the same h pie arie crown show, after i hipped one of my buddies who was INside the show for this performance. he told me frampton's camel was on this bill too, betw slade and h pie...i really think he's wrong. i saw them double-billed at the amphitheater for a fact. and i doubt they did it twice. but this arie crown show, talk about performance with some serious muscle! greg ridley's drum bashing alone! PLUS ex-colosseum guitar clem clempson squealing the shit out of his guitar....

all through my 20s i was not a dylan fan at all - 'mister-ponderous-yowlly-sing-speak'....boy was i totally fucking wrong.
i'm still not a huge fan, usually seeking collaborative efforts (ie tom petty) or hearing people like mick talor or mike bloomfield playing in his band...
THIS however is a relaxed dylan who is also out to prove himself as a musician....he puts it all out during these 2 shows, notable that only 3 songs out of like 40 total are repeated from one night to the next. and he PLAYS guitar! he takes THREE solos on my back pages that last night, plus during a goose-bump-inducing 'girl from the north country'.
~
and this SOPA is messing up a few sites i watch, interestingly.
it was just a matter of time i always thought, but we'll wait and see how this shakes out.
and i KNOW this is the shit jac wanted to see...too bad he ain't-a hear to crow about it. he might've actually approached it directly this time. pity.

more correctly you probably know only that many by their titles - 90% of the songs i will BET you've heard and would remember when you hear them. it'd be 'aah, it's that one!' i generally suck at dylan titles too.
