Although I'm sure we'll be talking about Cronos and Abadon soon enough.

Although I'm sure we'll be talking about Cronos and Abadon soon enough. Speaking of Cronos and Abandon, Venom coined the term Black Metal not death metal. Btw did you know they use to hold band practice in an old church? ;D

A major Venom influence was Kiss. Venom kicks some major ass.

I'm pretty sure that Riley's tongue is firmly protruding through his cheek as well, Fantasia!

Spit out a mouthful of soft boiled egg and toast when I read the name of this thread...
I'm sick of all my music, and I can't afford anything new right now. I am completely, totally broke, and it sucks. So all I've been listening to lately is my mix when I run. Watching the Daily Show right now, though...

lol at this board name... god...
mostly it's been:
pj harvey - to bring you my love - i'm still obsessed with the dancer. for some reason this song always makes me think of the the last temptation of christ, when satan shows up in the form of a sweet, gentle young girl. i'm not wrong to think this song is, at least in part, supposed to suggest that the man dressed in black is the devil himself, am i?
miles davis - sketches of spain - listening to this right now, and i actually prefer it to kind of blue. there's something about it that just seems...stately. elegant.
o.m.d. - architecture and morality - classic sad 80s new wave/synth pop. the album just seems to overflow with yearning. love it.
birthday party - hits - i gotta get my nick fix.
Cheers, M

Speaking of Miles Davis, I only own Kind of Blue and have parts of On the Corner recorded. I was wondering if Bitches Brew would be the next best album to purchase. Your feedback....

I'm partial to Birth Of Cool next to Kind Of Blue.
Bitches Brew is pretty hardcore stuff. Not a nut I've personally beeen able to crack very easily, but probably pretty rewarding listen once you get your head around it.

As I touted a few days back, try Davis' "In A Silent Way" before perhaps jumping to "Bitch's Brew" -- it's VERY mellow but you start to get the electric guitar elements in place. Just two loonnng cuts but you'll find yourself playing it over and over and over....
I can also strongly recommend a 2-CD set out a couple years or so ago called "The Essential Miles Davis" -- for an artist with SUCH a wide range of material, it does a fair sampling of his work that can fit on just two discs.
D o n (ditto too BTW on "Sketches of Spain" -- I play that on a regular basis here at work and enjoy the themes he explored on it)
