Snow Patrol - Final Straw
This is quite a nice little piece of modern alt - rock. I can see myself getting quite a bit of enjoyment out of this in the months to come!

Just how fucking good is that song? Riley - What do you make of that Six by Seven album? I think I was a little too excited about it back when I recommended it, but it's still a very good album imo. Hope you're enjoying it?

Yeah, I wouldn't call it completely earth shattering, but your nudge has been very well received mate. Thanks again.
Familiarity has led me to really quite enjoying it. I would put it firmly in the middle of some of the solid yet relatively faceless Radiohead-esque type stuff from the last 10 years or so. One of the first 4-5 tracks is classic Manchester, driven heavily off the Stone Roses type rolling bassline with cool keyboards (more Charlatans actually)

Oh and "Run" is so good, I haven't managed to get around to the rest of the disc yet.

Scottsy- what's your verdict on Besides Yourself? I'm still quite hooked on Cantilever!
Had finally a chance to listen to Smile....it hasn't yet really blown me away but it's like eating a large merang- so shivery shivery sweet it makes your teeth ache. But it tastes nice and it's quite filling...
Also had a cursory listen to the new live Dream Theater-triple disc....boy, can't wait for these guys to come down under and blow my ears off....

Just got done listening to Culling The Herd and Sealed with a Fist from Exodus. Nothing like thrash to get the heart going.

Riley, what's your feedback on the Lloyd Cole? Don, I've had Love Story for a while, so it was sort of a "digging through the vaults" type listen, but I can't say enough about it. His best material seems to be when he's working through some stuff (which is pretty much always), but bile is tempered enough on this one that it just contrasts perfectly with the pretty vibe that tends to run musically through most of the tracks. My favorite is "if I gave you some petrol, would you make yourself useful?" Classic Lloyd. Arguably the first in a line of more recent discs by Cole that leaned much more heavily on accoustic based themes and an almost troubador like presentation. I think the follow up, The Negatives is stronger where it revisits more of the band thing he had years ago with The Commotions, but Love Story is extremely consistent and well sequenced. I would definitely recommend it if you're already a fan. I often see his stuff in used stores (typical), so if you decide to give it a whirl, you might score it cheap enough.

My favorite is "if I gave you some petrol, would you make yourself useful?" Classic Lloyd. LOL -- I can actually hear him singing that in my head! That's fuckin' great! It's been several years since I've picked anything up by him ("Don't Get Wierd On Me Babe" I think is in my racks along with some w/Commotions "Best of") -- someone as you remarked that I need to go back and re-visit. Seeing you mention the name brought that on....and yeah, he's likely to have some stuff at a decent price on the used racks I'm sure! Thanks for the info ~ D o n
