This one’s a bit difficult. I was mighty impressed with Primal Scream’s output around the end of the last decade and ditto with the Delgados recent records, particularly Hate. I think, however, I’m going to end up getting nostalgic and picking Aztec Camera. Don’t you hate when that happens?
MIAs: Simple Minds, Big Country and The Waterboys.
Simple Minds – crap AOR phase and all – might well get my vote if they were listed, on the basis of their early 80s work. The one band that would trump them, though, is The Waterboys. Not technically a Scottish group, the band formed in London and had key members from Wales and England but let’s face it, Mike Scott is The Waterboys and he was born in Edinburgh.

In the absence of Idlewild and Jesus & Mary Chain, it has to be Primal Scream.
But Drum's right - Simple Minds first 6 albums (prior to Sparkle In The Rain) were terrific.

But Drum's right - Simple Minds first 6 albums (prior to Sparkle In The Rain) were terrific. Actually, Sparkle in the Rain was terrific as well. It’s follow-up, Once Upon a Time, was where they really nose-dived. |

Fuck, how could I forget the Jesus And Mary Chain? Well okay, probably because I don't like them that much, but yeah, that was a stupid oversight on my part.
