Hopefully my top 8(which are listed in order up there) are some of your faves. Yeah, I know, no Roxanne. No De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da, and no Every Breath You Take. The only one I won't apologize for is Every Breath You Take, even though I like that song......a little.
Lemme know which one(s) I certainly shouldn't have left out. But rest assured, my top 8 won't change, so I hope you dig what I picked.

"So Lonely" has always been my favorite for some reason. The drum fills are ridiculous and the two main tempo changes work amazingly well.

Of these eight, it's a close one between 'Every Little Thing' and 'Wrapped Around Your Finger'... think the latter wins out, but not sure if that's just nostalgia talking.
Probably my favourite Police song though --- Spirits in the Material World.

I picked Driven To Tears 'cuase it's too good not to have at least one vote. I'd add Tea In The Sahara and Truth Hits Everybody were it my list...

I actually don't much care for Invisible Sun ... or almost anything off Ghosts in the Machine.
But I voted for Every Little Thing She Does is Magic, because, well, it really is magic! Great little love song.
My personal favorite Police songs (at this moment):
1. Message in a Bottle 2. Every Breath You Take (the creepiest number one hit of all time! "every step you take, I'll be watching you") 3. Every Little Thing ... 4. Walking on the Moon 5. Don't Stand So Close to Me

ken ya oughta really reconsider your position on Ghost in the Machine...it was actually a rather impressive progression in the Police canon.........they really played with some intriguing atmospherics on that one......

My high school girl friend loved that album ... but I never could get into it. Still can't. I was listening to Demolition Man the other day, and about half-way through it I cued up Sting's (far superior) live reading of it w/his Blue Turtles Band c. 1985. The jazzier version just blows away the (lifeless) studio cut.
My personal Police album rankings:
Synchronicity, 5 stars. A truly era defining album, one of the best of the eighties. Zenyatta Mondatta, 5 stars. Regatta De Blanc, 4.5 stars ... oh hell, 5 stars. Outlandos d'Amour, 3.5 stars. Ghosts in the Machine 2 stars.
So it's not like I don't love the Police ... it's that I think that one record is a real misstep ... which they recovered quite nicely from.

the police had so many amazing songs: from that poll alone, i'd list "So Lonely", "Bring On The Night", "Driven To Tears", "Contact".....

I actually think that the Police are now a bit underrated. People often kind of write them off as "Sting's old band" and just lump them into their opinion of his solo stuff, for better or worse. But the Police really were a band, and Summers and Copeland were absolutely essential to their sound. Summers was a fucking guitar genius IMO ... all that space between the notes ... huge influence on both the Edge and Peter Buck. Sonically, the Police were one of the most interesting bands to come out of the New Wave, and that's saying something.
Still don't like Ghost in the Machine, though.

uh oh... i'm going to have to download all their albums right this very second. reminsicence is washing over me. I've got the Message in a Box set, plus the 2cd Live! set from a few years back, so I've got pretty much the complete Police on my iPod. Might have to cue that one up for the drive home. she's so close now, that girl is half his age!

Regatta De Blanc was my fave. they were a good pop band, nothing more nothing less. Oh, I seriously disagree with that comment. They were a great rock and roll band, IMHO. Listen to the first disc of that Live album I mentioned a minute ago. Just the three of 'em, on the Regatta tour, and the thing rocks like crazy. Very nearly as good as the first disc of The Name of This Band is Talking Heads. God I love that brittle sound ...
