The other 2 don't even compare with Electric Ladyland, IMO. Of course I couldn't say that if it wasn't for 1983: A Merman..............Gently, Gently Away.
I decided not to include the Band Of Gypsies since it's not an album with the Experience, but I dig it more than the other two.

It's been somewhat of a tug-of-war between Electric Ladyland and Axis over the years but I had to go with the former.
It also has the best album cover, IMO.

I get the feeling that not many people saw this one. I would love to see Are You Experienced get its ass kicked by Electric Ladyland.

...I actually saw it, but I would have needed to go to AMG to refresh myself as to the songs on the two other non-Electric Ladyland albums.
Of course Ladyland stomps them...but I wanted to have a good word for the outstanding songs on the others.
I'm so surprised Ken Holzman hasn't posted yet....:>D

Yeah Doc, I try to stick to subjects I know something about. This is sort of like "what's the best Chipmunks album?" I can appreciate that it's something other people love, but it just doesn't turn my crank.
But that does raise the question, what would be the best Hendrix album for the Chipmunks to cover? I can hear Alvin belting out "Purple Haze" right now ...

I know, I know. Hendrix is wankery, right?

Ken's just weird on Hendrix. Like I've said to him before, I cannot see someone loving Stevie Ray the way he does and then totally fail to see the near-absolute equivalency of the playing of them both...and in many cases Jimi's blinding superiority...in feel, in flash. *cough*HearMyTrainAComin'*cough* But it's been said....like I said. Ken's just weird, ignore him:>)

Kind of like the Chipmunks, or the Banana Splits.

To each is to his own....
Have you heard the Band of Gypsies? It's a bit different as Hendrix is using Billy Cox on bass (far superior to Noel Redding, IMO), and Buddy Miles on drums. The sound is a little more chill, as Billy Cox is a groove kind of bass player, and Buddy Miles is a tight pocket drummer, opposed to Mitch Mitchell who is a loose jazz style drummer. Anyway, as a result Hendrix seems to play tighter and even a little slower. Don't know if you've heard it or not, but it's a very good listen and Hendrix playing possibly at his best....I think the Gypsies only played together a few times, shortly after this concert (Fillmore East Dec. 31, 1969/ Jan. 1, 1970) Hendrix would go back to Mitch Mitchell on the drums and retain Billy Cox on bass (the best line-up, IMO).
