And yet, let's not fool ourselves. The Stripes are nowhere near as good as Radiohead, TOOL, or BSS.
They are better than Arcade Fire, though. But neither band is great. Noone will give a shit about Arcade Fire in a few years.

I don't know if it's a real measure of quality or not, but I guarantee you that more people will care about the Arcade Fire in two or three years than will care about Broken Social Scene. Seriously.

Well, a LOT more people care about Arcade Fire than BSS right now; why would that change?
Not that AF will ever be hugely popular or anything.

it's a possibility. BSS are more volatile than Arcade Fire.

Nobody will care about either band and you all bloody well know it. Pitchfork names Funeral the best album of 2004 then inexplicably put it at #45 on the best of 2000-2004 (behind 7 other 2004 records) a few months later. BSS didn't even make the top 100 of THIS year.
In the end, only a few dedicated nerds such as yourselves will still care about either. The trendsetters giveth and they taketh away.

And yet, Tool can fart around for a half decade and still entrance a good 5 million people just by reformatting their website.

could it be because Tool traffick in the mysterious and obscurity guaranteed to win cultist followers, whereas the Arcade Fire are really just normal blokes who wear their hearts on their sleeves?
let's not get carried away about just WHOM the nerd element is ;D

Shin speaks the truth. Remember Clinic? Vaguely, I'm sure. And yet they'd have once been in the BSS position about 5 years ago.

i remember Clinic all too well, as i am still a fan. Their last album was a diassappointment, which derailed their public image somewhat, but there's no taking away from Internal Wrangler or the 3 EPs albums... which are good rawkus music no matter how you cut it.
