I'm a big fan of solo Cornell. And I wish Scott Weiland would record another solo album, too, because 12 Bar Blues is fantastic. I agree. I love that album. I don't see why both Weiland and Cornell can't record solo albums inbetween their group projects. I suppose the fact that both albums were commercial flops is what makes them hesitant to give it another shot.

Yeah, I guess. Scott Weiland can always borrow a dollar off Slash if he's a bit hard up for cash. The guy is emaciated. Buy him a turkey sub, Slash. Do you want your singer to break at the knees?
Both Cornell & Weiland's solo albums didn't do badly, they just didn't sell as expected. But they were critically acclaimed. Don't rave reviews count for anything anymore?

There was a rumor about a year ago that Weiland was planning another solo album. Not sure if that's still in the works or if it got abandoned though, as I haven't heard anything about it since then.

It may seem common for frontmen solo albums to do middling business, as if they rub people the wrong way.
Slash's Snakepit didn't exactly do gangbusters either, right?

That was because Slash's Snakepit was super-crap.

I have to agree that the Scott Weiland solo record is a pretty good record. I always liked it when he was doing his best to do this "Low" like Bowie thing.

So, completely off-kilter but since we're on the subject of Slash- any truths to the rumour to a Guns 'n fuckin' Roses-reunion with Slash?

No truth to that at all. Supposedly Axl and Slash did meet up, but then afterwards Axl shot his mouth off and told the press that Slash told him that he was unhappy with Weiland. No way Slash is going to get back with him after he pulled that stunt, trying to break up Velvet Revolver.

This is what Rocky's talking about. Funny stuff...
Scott Weiland Calls Axl Rose A Fraud In a hilarious letter... by Daniel Melia on 3/14/2006
Former Stone Temple Pilot’s and now Velvet Revolver front man Scott Weiland has hit back at Axl Rose in what looks set to be a hilarious war of words.
Last week Rose launched a lawsuit against former Guns n’ Roses guitarist Slash and in a statement took several pot shots at Slash and fellow former G’n’R members Duff Mackagan and Matt Sorum.
Rose accused them all of making “negative and malicious statements about (him in the press) in order to garner publicity" as part of "a vindictive attempt to aggrandize their own stature, (and) rewrite history through false statements".
He also said that Slash had told him “’Duff was spineless’, 'Weiland was a fraud,' and that he 'hates Matt Sorum.'" Reports MTV.
Well Weiland wasn’t gonna take all that lying down and has written a letter to Rose on Velvet Revolver’s official website.
It reads: “Get in the ring. Go to the gym motherfucker, or if you prefer, get a new wig motherfucker. I think I’ll resist the urge to stoop to your level. Oh shit, here it comes, you fat, botox faced, wig wearin fuck! O.K. I feel better now. Don’t think for a second we don’t know where those words came from. Your unoriginal, uncreative little mind, the same mind that had to rely on its bandmates to write melodies and lyrics. Who’s the fraud now bitch?”
“Damn, I couldn’t imagine people writing for me. How many albums have you put out man and how long did it take the current configuration of this so-called band to make this album? How long? And without the only guys that validated the name. How dare you! Shame on you! How dare you call our bass player spineless? We toured our album over a year and a half. How many shows have you played over the last ten years?”
It closes: “Oh, that’s right - you bailed out on your long awaited comeback tour, leaving your remaining fans feeling shall we say a trifle miffed?! I won’t even list what I’ve accomplished because I don’t need to. What we’re talking about here is a frightened little man who once thought he was king, but unfortunately this king without his court is nothing but a memory of the asshole he once was.”
The letter is signed “Yours truly Scott Weiland” – we await Rose’s response with baited breath.

So, completely off-kilter but since we're on the subject of Slash- any truths to the rumour to a Guns 'n fuckin' Roses-reunion with Slash? Ok, I changed the title of the thread so we can discuss "supergroups" in general... Anyway, I was thinking that Chris Cornell would have been an excellent choice to front VR instead of Weiland. Not that I dislike Scott, not by a long shot, but I think it would've worked better with Cornell. He'd also be able to belt out the GNR classics live just as well as, or maybe even better, than Axl. Here's a few more reasons why it would work... GnR's version of Soundgarden's "Big Dumb Sex" was one of the few interesting moments on the terrible "Spaghetti Incident". It's also what made me check out Soundgarden. Louder Than Love is fucking ace, btw! Chris Cornell, despite being in his mid-40's, still performs from time to time shirtless, still sporting a six-pack! Axl traded his six-pack for a six-pack of Foster's years ago. Cornell, even as a solo songwriter, could write rings around anything Axl could do on his own.

Hey Kool, thanks- sorry for hijacking the thread but it was because a colleague of mine was reasonably convinced that there was a GnR-reunion that I asked the question...
Ken- that letter! ROTFLMAO! "You fat, botox faced, wig wearin fuck!" I nevwer look at Axl the same way again!

His face does indeed look odd lately, kinda swollen. I thought he was too "rock-n-roll" to do botox? The wig part was hilarious! Explains the bloody bandanas he used to wear.

Check it out Layla. Looks like Scott's gonna do another solo record... Velvet Revolver Dive Deeper
Rock supergroup channel "different grooves" for "Libertide"
Velvet Revolver are in the mood to experiment these days, as they dive into pre-production for the follow-up to their 2004 multiplatinum debut, Contraband. The band's branching out more than ever on the new album, tentatively titled Libertide. "The first one was definitely a rocking, punky, bashing record. We really want to make a deeper album this time," drummer Matt Sorum says of the rock supergroup -- also featuring former Guns N' Roses vets Slash and Duff McKagan, and fronted by former Stone Temple Pilots' singer Scott Weiland. "The other record was more of a collaboration -- now we want to see what everyone brings to the table on their own. It's cool when people come in with an idea without the usual collaborators, 'cause it can totally spark." Sorum adds that he and McKagan have been going off on their own, "writing a lot of riffs on the road, messing around with all kinds of different grooves, listening to Prince, tripping on stuff." Adding to the funk is hip-hop super-producer Pharrell Williams, recently signed on to work on the release. Weiland thinks the diverse sounds are starting to come together. "It's going great," he says. "We have about fifty songs. We have to whittle it down, record twenty and then pick about sixteen." But with all the creative decisions left, Sorum thinks new music will hit radio "by the end of the summer." Meanwhile, Weiland, who was cleared last summer on drug charges stemming from a 2003 arrest after completing a required rehab program, is also teaming with Pharrell for a track called "Happy," set to appear in his next solo album. The embattled rocker also recently inked a deal with Scribner to publish a memoir, Desperation No. 5, that chronicles his rise to rock stardom, his struggle with drugs and his newfound sobriety, due in 2007. STEVE BALTINI love the fact that Pharrell Williams is producing. That "She Wants To Move" track he did last year was brilliant. The production on the first VR album is actually what killed it for me. The melodies were buried in all that noise and Matt Sorum's drumming sounded tinny and way too distant in the mix. So, Audioslave have gone for a mix between Earth Wind & Fire and Zeppelin. VR are working with a hip-hop producer. What is the world of modern rock coming to?
