Mother Love Bone, Avalanches, Germs, Sex Pistols, you name it...discuss. Not a poll because there are way too fucking many.
Criteria:
- band must have only released a single full length album (try to avoid bands with substantial EP releases in addition to their single album) - band must be broken up now, or otherwise inactive (therefore we can reasonably assume their single gem will be their only one for all time)
Totally copped this thread from DVDVR.

It's been a long while since that last album, eh? I figured they had.
But I was just throwing those out there...I know the Germs get a big fat DQ from where I'm sitting due to massive amounts of other stuff they've sent out.

I only know Germs from their M.I.A. Anthology, but it's gotten a lot of play out of me. So, one album or not, love them.
Forming's the sort of song I can play 20 or 30 times in a row without even conceiving pausing.

How 'bout a band who made one incredibly stupidly great record, then sat on their arse for like a decade, then called it quits?
If that qualifies, then Stone Roses have to take this title. If not, well, I'll try to think of some other contenders ...

I think Jeff Buckley's Grace should qualify as well, since an album isn't official (to me anyway), if you're not around for it's completion and release.

I'm with you on Grace, Riley. And good call on Cool Blue Halo. A few more, in no particular order.
Slow (Didn't even make it to a debut album. Recorded output consists of one single and one 6 song EP but no thread of this type would be complete without a mention of them IMHO.) The Demics (One EP + one full album) Rebecca West (Full length album Burners On + EP the following year) Ultrasound (Late 90s UK outfit disintegrated after the release of phenomenal double album debut Everything Picture.) Cowboys International (One album, The Original Sin from 1979, though Ken Lockie formed new version of band and released a record in 2004.)
