I've got both versions of It's Probably Me, but haven't listened to either one in years.

To Sting's credit, he's still a great live act and his voice sounds exactly the same as it did when he was with the Police. It's no brilliant voice, but it is distinctly his, and in the long run that's what really matters.

I saw Sting on the Soul Cages tour c. 1991/2 ... and he was indeed a great live performer. About half the set was Police tunes, which was very cool, and he played a credible Purple Haze, which was a nice surprise.
I'd love to see Sting make another good album, but I'm not gonna hold my breath waiting.

I saw him on the TST's tour, and I was more than satisfied with the setlist. I was totally buzzing out at hearing him play Synchronicity II, probably my favorite Police song, since I didn't think he'd play it because it wasn't a major hit back in the day.

One thing I'll say for Sting, he loves to please his concert audiences. I can't remember all the Police tunes he played when I saw him, but I remember absolutely loving the show. He played a fabulous jazzy When Your World is Running Down, from Zenyatta Mondatta, which I loved and which wasn't a hit either.
He does treat his fans well, but damn his last studio album was bad.

Forget Sting. Sell your stocks and spend the money there, pal. Its a BRAND NEW DAY. He better treat his fans well. If there is a hell, he may be handed a shovel....Pure fucking evil. Alot of fucking coal. Maybe i should not be so hard on the old bastard. Its cool that he became successful. Good for him. Im glad he can talk about it. But Im not spending a penny on his maid-served Weetabix--wait-- ______________________________________________ I tried to let it go--yes-I am a hardcore Guided By Voices/Robert Pollard listener. Sure, there is filler on some of the side project stuff--tons of it--experimental shit that I dig--maybe some on the official records too but forget it. THATS WHATS COOL ABOUT MUSIC. "There is no 5 star Guided By Voices album--pollard is the king of filler!" WHAT? Everything that Pollard has done, for me, whether it fails (which sometimes it does big time) or succeeds, kicks ass. Its the spirit of it. Sometimes I find Pollard to be an opportunist, but I would be to if I were in his position. the love of music? I sincerely appreciate the creative aspect.
I like crazy ass bullshit in my music. I love experimental shit thats done on a low budget. Doesnt mean its filler. If you want filler--try John Lennon and Yoko Onos "Life With The Lions" or (insert band on major label in 2006-all of stongs 2000-on output) here.
You start attacking someone who sells a minimal amount of albums (that you have not bought or heard) --that doesnt make sense. Just cos you dont get it doesnt make it bad. It just makes me feel sorry for you. I tried to let it slip.
I can say a few negative things about the Human League. The Human League? But why? ("Facination" is a good song...)
"The Locust Sucks! Too much filler on their records..."

I respect our deference of opinion here but "that you have not bought or heard"? What's that all about?
I understand that the filler is part of the fun but I just don't need to hear every fart Bob ever put on tape. IMO it's even more frustrating that I know the guy can write really great songs but instead of putting twelve of those on an album he burys them with 30 tracks of half assed unfinished demos. Lo fi's one thing but unfinished is something else.

DED vs. wayved: the ultimate GBV showdown.
I completely relate to those who don't like to have to sift through all of Bobby P.'s experiments, half-thoughts, etc. But man, if you're into it, there's just nothing topping it.
Guided by Voices is probably my #4 all time band now, and #5 isn't close at all. And I have glen to thank. Never would have listened to them without his recommendations. Good man.

#'s 2 and 3 are also bands I got into through the boards though. So thanks to Ken and Mary for the Clash and X. :-P

In the case of the Clash (and possibly X) though, you probably would've ended up being a fan eventually, even if you had never posted at rs.com. Sorry for spoiling things a bit What's #5?

You're probably right.
#5 is RHCP.

I like how you didn't ask who #1 is. I barely listen to them anymore, but everyone still knows who holds that place in my heart.
