Is Jack White the guy from the White Stripes? If so, then he definitely is not the man.
I still have no idea who Ted Leo is.
Come to think of it, I don't know who Joel Plaskett is either. Who is he?

If you're going to use that logic, then anyone who's most recent album is better than Modern Times is the man over Dylan. Are you claiming that Modern Times is the best current album by anyone? Fuck no. The Black Angels currently own everyone and Modern Times is not the classic everyone makes out to be. But out of the pickings of the poll he tops the lot. I'd vote Hank Williams III as Man Of The Year had he been entered. But he's not so.... He he he. In your face, matey And as for Lemonheads- mwa, pass. I think I'll pick the new Shriekback and Opeth live-discs up tonight.

All those guys are the man in some respect each their own...except for Sufjan Stevens who I'm pretty sure has a vagina, makes good albums....menstruates.
Evan Dando has this party trick where he has two people name a song each and then he plays one and sings the other both in their orginal melodies and keys. That's pretty fucking impressive if you ask me.
No vote from me yet...I was saving just in case some needed a tie breaker to beat Malkmus.

If this were in the context of a career or significance type discussion, then Mr. Zimmerman takes it in a walk. If this were "in peak form" then it's again Bob's trophy. No one was cooler than Dylan was from about '64 through '66. For those three years, Bobby defined and redefined cool. He's still the model that hipsters hope to come close to. But that was then. Luke's obviously talking about right now. And right now, Ted Leo is the fuckin' MAN! He's on top of his game, he's not living off past glories or hints of future possibilities. Nope, Ted's the man. And Jack White is just too big a guitar wanker to be the man ... hell, Meg's cooler than Jack.

I thought of entering Hank III, but in the end I figured I'd just keep it with singer/songwriter alt-rock/indie types. Beck is a bit out of place here, and I wasn't going for too much more than that. Hank III probably is man of the year, though, having finally thrown one out that's almost up to his full potential. Ken's right about Leo being on top of his game. And Malkmus is back on top of his. Plaskett will also always be up there. Back to Ian Blurton, isn't he married to one of the (many) former Nashville Pussy bassists, whose also in C'mon? Well, the theme song to this thread is "I'm the Man" by Nashville Pussy, so I guess he's got something going a little close to home there.

Ryo made me laugh my ass off too. Good one!
Not voting for Malkmus-though I love Pavement and his solo stuff, I secretly want to kick the shit out of him for being an asshole to his other bandmates. he is not the man.
Matthew Sweet is cool but nowhere near....
Jack White bores the fucking shit out of me. Its not interesting at ALL.
Ted Leo is cool.
Will Oldham scares me. Hes cool, but I dont know if he is THE MAN. Hes where evil and holiness cross. and that has nothing to do with being the MAN. he has obtained (like Dylan) no-man status.
Joel Plaskett would get my vote here. Im going to vote for him cos Pollard isnt on here.
Robert Pollard is the man. Not the man in the bad sense (keeping the people down)-the man in the set you free sense. He's not on the list. He has given people more good times than anyone on the above list. A man of the PEOPLE.
I wont vote for dylan cos he is too good to even be put in the same category as "the man"--(see Will Oldham) bruce springsteen isnt on here either.
Im gonna start my best of WHO ISNT THE MAN Terry Jacks anyone? Mark Farner? MEATLOAF? Jay Leno? ALF?

Joel Plaskett is the man over Dylan? ?! ??: although, if you're talking about right now, then Dylan's definitely not the man. He's not even teh grandad. (but it's not Plasket.)

Wow, I had to be pretty pissed about the whole Dylan thing on Saturday night to bother logging in just to post that.
I still agree that Dylan is not currently the man, but I no longer care enough to work up any sort of vitriol about the whole thing.
And yeah Luke, Blurton's married to (or just dating, not actually sure anymore) Katie Lynn Campbell, who did indeed play bass for NP and is frighteningly awesome.

I'm still sticking by Jack White. At least until Jeff Tweedy becomes an option.
