I had to leave out a couple there's so many. My vote goes to Harvest Moon with Everybody Knows.... coming in a close 2nd.

Putting Decade on there would be a perfect cinch but I know being a "Best Of" wouldn't be proper....STILL it's one of the greatest comp. releases out there!
Damn, I'd have to think on this....except to note that it sure WON'T be Landing On Water.

Um, I meant to put this poll up under Start Your Music threads. I don't know how it ended up here, but as you can see I've been on a binge.

Where's Nelson?

Who voted for Landing on Water anyway? Or is that the "Nelson" option for this poll?
Seriously, all of Neil's albums are flawed in significant ways. I'll probably wind up voting for Live Rust as it has the fewest clunkers (why does he insist on playing that cheesy "I Am a Child" crap right next to the sublime "Sugar Mountain?") and pretty much the highest highs (the definitive versions of "Out of the Blue/Into the Black" and "Like a Hurricane" among them). But I'll give this a little more thought before I punch one of the buttons.
But I'd still vote for Nelson if I could!

Nelson is NOT the greatest band in the world. Pretty damn good, but c'mon.

Neil Young's greatest album is Mirrorball. It's a scientific fact.
I'm not even sure if I'm kidding. I need to listen to more Neil Young. I have a handful of his stuff, but nothing I listen to very often.

Nelson is NOT the greatest band in the world. Pretty damn good, but c'mon. But I thought we'd agree that "Nelson" would always be an option in future polls. Sort of like "none of the above" or "everything in this list stinks." I'd take "Neil Young has never made a great album" if that were an option, but I figure I'm more likely to get "Nelson" than I am that choice. ;D

Neil Young's greatest album is Mirrorball. It's a scientific fact. Just change "greatest" to "most listenable" and you've got an indisputably true statement. Seriously. Why isn't Mirrorball on here? I probably would've voted for it myself. Seriously.

OK, I'll redo this poll at the other place w/ Mirrorball AND Nelson. Ya dig?

Who voted for Landing on Water anyway? Or is that the "Nelson" option for this poll? LOL!!! I swear it wasn't me --- I consider that one of the most unlistenable albums that I own by a respectable artist. Aside from "Touch The Night", I can't get through it.

My entire Neil Young collection consists of:
Harvest American Stars N Bars After the Gold Rush Mirrorball
I rarely listen to any of them, and of course its not nearly enough to have an informed opinion in this poll. But based on those four, I would say that Ken is right that Mirrorball is the most listenable. After the Gold Rush is probably the overall best of the four though, and American Stars N Bars features the greatest song ("Like a Hurricane") though the rest of the album is pretty shitty.

I missed this when it was fresh...
anyhoo, I voted for Tonight's the Night. It's a pretty raw album, and IMO showcases the gritty talent of Crazy Horse. I typically listen to Zuma or Mirror Ball more, but I think TTN is certainly one of Mr. Youngs top 5 albums.
Mirror Ball is good, but it's a bit odd in places. Odd meaning that either Neil Young can't keep up w/ Pearl Jam, or Pearl Jam didn't know how to slow down to fit Neil's style better. It's obvious that they took a great deal from Neil after recording that album (listen to 'Smile' on No Code). Also, the two songs that didn't make the album - the ones Eddie sang and were also co-written by Neil Young - are really tight (Long Road, I Got Shit).
