no i mean.... for the last year or so i've been going to Food Bank of the Rockies instead of the grocery store... i don't think i should be thinking about feeding a dog if i can barely feed myself.

She was a shelter dog, and she was absolutely a sweetie.
She was a bit of a diva, but that had more to do with us putting her on a pedestal from day 1 and spoiling the hell out of her.

No less than she deserved, of course.

Lovely picture of Riley, um, Riley. Any curiousity I had regarding Junior Boys has passed after hearing a few tracks. Oh dear, is all I can say. Just not my cup of tea - happy boppy poppy Canadian synths a step too far methinks. But then I didn't like that Boy Least Likely Too album either.... *hurls self over wall after launching double whammy grenade in Canadian camp* Hope the statute of limitations hasn't passed on this one yet today. Cause I absolutely do not get happy boppy poppy from this album. OK, the danciness is there, granted. But shivery synths, aching wistfulness and elegant reverie set to modern-day r&b beats? In my book sort of a logical progression from Colour of Spring-era Talk Talk, 20 years on. And all of it so gorgeously understated. Completely in love with this record!

Yeah Drum, had another listen and I think I slightly misjudged the tone of the album I quite like that Birthday track - it's suitably melancholy. But still - too many synths and just not my cup of tea really.

Cheers, Dolly. Pretty caught up in that record now, as you can tell. Didn't want some impressionable reader of Cancon to get the wrong idea about it and since Riley seemed to have fallen asleep on his cowbell.

Dolly was it you who was enjoying The Warning by Hot Chip so much? Surprised you're not more fond of Junior Boys since they're in similar vein.
As for my cowbell dear Drumstein, it's a little preoccupied right now with corporate whoring. Plus I'm getting old and I'm not as quick around here as I used to be.

It was, Riley. I just hear the start of that record and keep expecting Axel Foley to come screeching round the corner in Ray Bans and a red convertible. Don't ask me why. But on closer listen there are a few decent tunes - I can imagine it being more JLLMs cup of tea with that whole Talk Talk vibe Drum was talking about.
But yes, Hot Chip - a whole lot of fun. It doesn't sound as dated to my ears.

Fair enough. I'm listening to Hot Chip right now. It's pretty fantastic. The Axel Foley thing made me chuckle btw.

Doc - did you know Dinosaur Jr. was playing here Monday? How did I miss this?

Not sure how you missed that one either, Riley. Seems like word's been around for ages. Though I must admit that for whatever reason my interest in them was never more than casual.

It's one helluva show, guys. Not sure who they're touring with up there, but the two openers here- Priestess and Dead Meadow- were crazy stoner bliss.
J. looks like Jerry Garcia, though.

So some guy on some other message board is telling me that he saw Emily Haines and Amy Millan make out onstage at a BSS show, "the free show BSS did at the Toronto Harbourfront in August of 2004."
Is this guy full of shit, or should I hate him?
