I'm on the first day of my five-day weekend right now... it's glorious (even though I was still up at 5:15 today in order to beat the crazy cottage country rush on my trip to see my folks.) Not back to work until Wednesday.
And although I currently have a perfect view of my parents' pool through the patio doors, all enticing and glistening in the sun, what am I doing? Sitting inside listening to Alan Cross and chatting here. I'm pretty sure there's something wrong with that.

Sounds idyllic. That first night with the whole long weekend stretching out before you is always the best.

It's true. I love the feeling that I have four nights here before heading back home on Tuesday. It'll go so fast, but this beginning part is always so perfect. My parents are gone out to get supplies for the weekend (since all the stores are closed here tomorrow for Canada Day.) My mom's supplies involve tons of food for a few big family dinners. My dad's supplies involve enough beer, wine and other assorted booze for us and any family and friends that drop by over the weekend, which happens a lot around this place. I love being home. And my brother and sister-in-law will be here in about an hour with the kids. I haven't seen them since Easter - so excited!!

Oh cool, Tunes. Chillin' back home with the family is fantastic - especially when they spoil you by geting in lots of food and alcohol. Are they going to do you a bar-b-q? My Dad always gets the barbie stoked almost as soon as I hit the motorway. Mmmm. I'm hanging out for a charcoaled pork rib now. Have a great weekend! Nice relaxing bubblebath for me. It's been a long hard week, and next week is only going to be ten times worse. So tonight is my night. Laterz!

LOL! Yeah, you could call it "Britain Day" like the Canadians. The only reason they formed their union on July 1 was so they wouldn't all have to work while we stayed home a day or two that week.

Took a five and a half day weekend myself. Monday and Tuesday are paid holidays for the company, but I left work at lunch yesterday and took today off to spend time with my friend Lauren, who came in just for a bit over a day so we could go up to see Pearl Jam and Tom Petty in Milwaukee last night. She lives in Colorado but is currently in the middle of a two week jaunt through Michigan to see her family, and took a little swing through this part of the Midwest for the concert and to hang out.
I love seeing her, but I am a little bummed that it was such a short visit (she picked me up from work at 11:00 a.m. yesterday and just headed back to Michigan about 15 minutes ago -- it was going to be a slightly longer visit but she has her parents' car and they need it back tomorrow morning). Hopefully it won't be too long until her next jaunt to Chicago because I definately can't afford a trip out west any time soon.

LUKE--Understood..... Rocky: MAN! Thats heartbreaking shit. Thats almost love right there. FOOK! Yeah dude. We've never been "more than friends" or whatever, but she's pretty much been my best friend for a good 5 years or so. Even after she moved out west, we still have stayed close. We talk at least once a week, but usually more frequently than that. If we lived in the same place, we'd probably be married by now. You're very perceptive. Thing is, she's not a city girl at all -- she lives out in the mountains and really loves it out there -- and I'm totally loving living here in Chicago. I had a great time visiting her last fall. That area is really amazing. I just can't picture myself out in the mountains long term. I think I'd get bored. Maybe some day, but for now I have to see what I can make for myself in the big city. She's a 1st grade teacher. If that ever worked out, then maybe I'd be joining the Luke-Riley-JLLM TILF party.

She lives in a little town called Edwards, outside of Vail. I spent one night in Denver, and that seemed pretty sweet, although it's still not Chicago. She seems to have a love/hate sort of thing with Denver anyway.
