The position of Riley's hand is what's really the clincher in that photo. You know that pic was taken on the heels of a high-pitched "Oh, STOP!"

Never thought of the MT thing, thorny. Thanx for pointing that out. I might return to Melonius Thunk soon if people refer to me as "Mr. Thunk". But for now, it's "Seeing Cantaloupe." Ya dig?

Can I refer to you as The-Poster-Formerly-Known-As-Melon?
Besides, I'm with Thorn. (ThornGrub was the coolest poster name ever, by the way) Melon is a cool name, TPFKAM. You should stick with it.

Dude, I'm still calling you Melon. Some things just don't change, even with a marketing campaign.

Then why do you call DED "Mantis"?

Actually, I think changing his screen name might be a good thing for The Poster Formerly Known as Melon ("TPFKASM" herein). New name, kinder gentler attitude. I've always liked TPFKASM, but of course he could get a bit shrill on social/religious issues. It's good to have a variety of viewpoints on here, and maybe a new name, a new "identity" as it were, will help TPFKASM find a different voice to express his.
Of course, he could just start calling himself "TPFKASM" ... kind of a cool acronym really. I think that's what I'll refer to him as, at least for a while ... just because I've never liked cantalope ...

Name-changes are appropriate sometimes. I've gone through two myself, though Frag was just a simple shortening of The_Fragile_Reptile. I liked being referred to as Frag much better. Similarly, I think Melon is a cool way of abbreviating Melonius Thunk. But I will concur that TPFKASM is a badass acronym. For the record, I pronounce it T-P-F-Kasm 'cause it sounds even cooler.

That's funny Frag, 'cause that's the same pronunciation I was thinking of. T.P.F.KASM would be an excellent new name for our friend. Excellent.

I think Melon should go the next step too and devise some sort of symbol that characterises him.
Little cross with a halo above it?

Then why do you call DED "Mantis"? It's all a matter of how strongly you identify the person with the name. I know Amp's real life name - but it never feels right to use it. I have his e-mail address entered by his real name, and yet every time I go to send him an e-mail, I screw myself up because I search for Amp instaed of his real name. DED / Mantis - I guess I just personally didn't identify him as strongly with either name.

It wasn't meant as an insut. No need for an ouch. There are some people you identify with their names. Others you identify with their avatars. Others you identify with their thoughts.

We had a similar conversation to this way back at RS. It's strange how we identify one another here, at times. And even stranger, I'm sure, when it's left to our own minds. For instance, every time I pop in Born to Run or even glance at it's cover, Mr. Holzman comes to mind. Before re-joining the boards I'd have mostly likely associated it only as the greatest album of all time And likewise, I can now only picture Ken as scruffy and dirty with that beautiful guitar jutting from his hip. Honestly, in this case of Ken-associations, I couldn't even begin to remember how I pictured him or what I thought of when Ken_Holzman came to mind. It does seem like, for some strange reason, "What's the Frequency Kenneth?" always popped into my brain. Then sometimes, I wonder how I'd react to be called "Frag" in real life. I think I would turn, ready to communicate without batting an eye, thinking I'd simply been summoned. That is my name here. Suffice it to say, the inherent associations with any poster's name or avatar are just as important as their posts. On such a limited medium as this, there are but a few ways we can attribute any personalities to ourselves. In that vein, my particular favorites, off-hand are poster names like maarts and skvorecky. Or luke back in his ekul days. Names that it's impossible to have a proper pronunciation of. So you come up with your own, it fits the poster and voila...another dimension to the character. I think I really lost track of what I was talking about here. so I'll end it.

Just wanted to let ya'll know: now that I've changed my name, it won't bother me if a handfull of you still call me Melon. I know you might not be able to help it, so it doesn't bother me as long as most people still refer to me as Mr. Thunk.
