the latest chronicles of narnia was very good. of course i'm taking the word of a 6 year old (and of my wife), but the first couple were damned good imo. they went without me to see it in 3D yesterday, while i stayed home to watch the bears game. AND to enjoy a couple of bloody marys just settin' in a quiet house wid da dog. t'was ok, y'know? last one i actually saw? at home it was jackie chan's 'the spy next door' - poor but not execrable. at the movie house, it was that 'legend of sumthin'sumthin'...' the owl movie which actually was quite good, but them i'm a sucker for going to nearly any 3D movie.
though one that i WILL avoid like the fucking plague is that new yogi bear flick. i thought a commercial was for 'showcasing' a movie's good/great aspects. sheer dreck, writ LARGE just by their adverts.

Saw Win Win. Funny stuff. Pretty tame - I dare say I could have taken my mom to see it. I did like it, but it's definitely something that could have waited for Netflix, not full-on see-it-in-the-theater good.

Saw the preview for Red Riding Hood and thought WHAT A BUNCH OF CRAP --- like what all those dumbed down Vampire Diaries and shit seem to be. While the premise looked good, to my view the story was twisted into this faux danger-romance...0000ooooo should I go with the goody-goody guy or get some "real" excitement from this sick fuck who just happens to get a hairy hard-on every full moon? ?

All's well out here, Maarts. :-) I have two months-ish left out here in California then we're off for 3 years on Key West, Florida. So I'm trying to enjoy it.
How about yourself?
Well, I'd start with True Grit, when it's on DVD. I enjoyed it. I didn't find it as gripping and surprising and entrancing as No Country for Old Men, which has become one of my favorites ever, but that just speaks to how great NCFOM is. If you haven't seen that, and it sounds like you haven't, then rent it asap, you won't be disappointed. Or maybe you will, but I'd be shocked if you were.
I , too, think Exit Through The Gift Shop was pretty great, actually ingenious, so I'd recommend that for sure...Win Win is good and probably playing in the theaters in Australia soon - maybe too "feel-good" or cutesy for some, but I liked it...The actor Bobby Cannavale was great in it.
Red Riding Hood...My my. What a mess that looks like. The crap that is aimed at young girls these days is extra horrifying. Reason #4000 why I don't want kids, especially not girls!

This film's has received the reissue treatment and the soundtrack is getting a very beautiful reissue from B-Music, the Andy Votel fronted entity. Last night I had the pleasure of viewing the newly restored 35 mm print and the uncut version that the director intended. I've been wanting to see this film for years but the only copy that has been available to me is a 9TH generation bootleg where the video and audio are just horrific. I absolutely loved this film but I have no idea what it's about. The acting in this film is incredible and it is one of the finer looking films I've ever seen. I know that this is the director's "break up" film. The kind of insane film a director makes whenever someone has broken their hearts, much like Von Trier's "Antichrist". This film worked rather well due to it's surrealistic nature, Von Trier is just a misogynistic fuck who makes crappy art. Is "Possession" a good movie? No. I think it's a great movie but it's fucking insane and it will make you recoil in horror. This is not just some fucking shitty Euro-Shock horror feature, either. This film was a meditation on psychological horror. I think there are two people in the world who have been mining this film for a very long time in terms of style. John Maus and David Lynch.

I'm gonna eat some barbecue and then I'm gonna watch "IT" with Clara Bow. She was so hot and I'm not joking about that. It's weird to say that about someone who's been dead for decades but I cannot lie.
