Kool, thanks for being so cool, like your name, and given us all this music to check out first. I'm glad that you did because I can not NOT buy the new Interpol. That album sounds like it was dialed in as an after thought. They sound bored and they also sound like they are out of ideas. I liked "Antics" but damn, I wish they would blow me away again. Maybe that's why Matador was so happy to have them go somewhere else. Maybe they knew something that we don't.
Ryosuke, thanks for the link! I am sending my stuff off to them tomorrow. Who knows, I might become a Japanese superstar causing me to move there and you could come work for me.

Thanks like-wise, kool!
But wtf's with the 10th cut on that Manic's album....the file converts to wave right up to 47% and then I get a 'Microsoft error'...and I've wiped all the files and RE-dl'd the whole damned thing from YSI... Plus that tune's mp3 file does play all the way through (good sounding disc, yes!), it just won't convert for me....
Might this have anytrhing to do with that m3u file leading off the larger file?

Rocdoc, I never use the m3u's. I usually delete them but I don't think that's the problem here. Which song are you talking about? "Winterlovers"? Let me know for sure so I can re-download it in a higher bitrate and reupload it for you.

Rocdoc, here's "Winterlovers" again at a higher bitrate. I think part of the problem is that it's 2 songs in one mp3 file. The cover of Lennon's "Working Class Hero" follows after several seconds of silence and since you're getting stuck at 47%, I'm assuming it's that silence that's confusing your converter. Are you using Nero to convert the files? Because if you're not, you should. I've never had a problem with it converting mp3s to wav files "on the fly". www.sendspace.com/file/u4c0q5Anyway, if this doesn't work too, let me know and we'll try something else. Like, cutting the file in two and converting them as 2 separate songs.

Thankyouthankyouhankyou, Kool! For going through that trouble....
I finally got it right just after I made that post. For some reason I kept using the pretty excellent free converter software that I found after someone (I think it was Ryo sending me Natsumen...or Rocky w/Lou Reed in Italy) sent me something as mp4 files.....and forgot that the NTI (New Tech Infosystems) softwre that Acer packed with my notebook already did mp3 to wav...
I'll give it a serious listen tomorow but that cut #3 (w/the Cardigans' singer duetting) was some seriously magnificient rock and roll!
Thanks again....and I do think that analysis re the blank spot before the hidden Working Class Hero was where the problem was...

btw, I won't be accepting any thank you's for the Zeitgeist upload. At least not until you've actually given this #$%$ a spin. If you like it, that's your problem. If you hate it, don't shoot the messenger.

Give it a shot maarts. Who knows? You might love it. I think we just might have the Pumpkins' very own St. Anger here. Loud, hookless, riff-rock nonsense lacking in melody and song structure with some of the most ridiculous lyrics ever penned by Corgan..., and that's saying plenty! The standouts would've made a pretty good 4 track EP though and I'll admit to really liking the first couple of tracks. That's it. And another one toward the end of the album, but I don't remember what it's called. Man, what a disappointing year for 'comeback' albums. I don't think I can stand another stinker. Prince has a new one coming out in a couple of weeks, but my expectations are never high with his recent releases. I'm pretty sure it won't stink though. Being only a 10 track album, I'd like to think he trimmed off anything he may have considered filler.

I think Prince has been pretty consistant over the years and not in a bad way. I'll take a mediocre album from him any day over the newest indie flavor of the month. He's definitely way better than Clap Your Hands And Please Admit You Suck.

Here's my review of the piece of shit. I posted this on the "What are you listening to" page.
My Review of Smashing Pumpkins' "Zeitgeist"
1. Doomsday Clock- Reminds me of the really bad songs off of "Mellon Collie" only better engineered. Someone also had the foresight to have someone sing back ups behind Corgan's vocals to make them sound more in key. Dude still can't sing and the opening riff of this song is so late 90s dude alternative it isn't funny. This does not bode well for Nicky The Nosferatu Cabbage Patch Doll.
2. Shades of Black-The opening riff of this song is a dumb attempt of trying to capture some of the lead off guitar wizardry of their past but it actually sounds like someone trying to sound like the Pumpkins. The vocals are also way too up in front in the mix for this song. This actually could have been a good song had Butch Vig recorded this track and Billy wasn't so hell-bent on turning the Pumpkins into a terrible early 80s metal band.
3. Bleeding The Orchid-This songs starts off okay and actually isn't all that bad. My only major complaint about this one is the guitar tone is like that of some dude that works at Guitar Center. It seems like Corgan is trying really hard to lose the fem side of his sound. This song definitely has the good parts of "Adore" and "Machina" but mixed in with really dorky "rawk" tone. Eh, that annoys me greatly.
4. That's The Way My Love Is-This song is actually really pretty good. It starts off like Zwan and has some really good keyboard riffs on it. This one reminds me of their work in between "Gish" and "Siamese Dream" that was released on "Pisces Iscariot". This is a really good song and I wish there was more stuff like it on the album.
5. Tarantula-I absolutely just hate this song. I feel like I'm being screamed at over the worst riff I have heard in a long time. I've tried like hell to really like this song but this song just sucks. As a lead off "comeback" single, I couldn't think of worse decision than putting this one on the radio. Oh wait, scratch that. That was a great decision because this album actually sucks.
6. Starz-The music for this song is really pretty interesting and nicely executed. The lyrics are totally shit and the production again is a little too early 80s rock for me. In fact, this song would be pleasurable to hear if it wasn't for the cheesy hair metal production.
7. United States-The drums on this song are really bad ass, as usual. Jimmy Chamberlin is the man, as they say, again and again. He is probably the only redeeming thing about this album so far. Drums alone don't save albums for me anymore though. The song is totally metal Sonic Boom, which actually isn't bad. Again, the lyrics make me want to slap Billy Corgan and again the cheesy 80s hair metal production is ANNOYING.
8. Neverlost-Thank god, I was beginning to think that this record was just going to be a bunch of screaming over the worst riffage I have ever heard. The Vibraphone is a nice touch. Again, something that I would expected to hear on "Adore" had Chamberlin been in the band aorund that time.
9. Bring The Light-This song isn't bad either and I really like the riff. It has some pretty cool guitar work in this one. There is some cool stuff at the end that is really sonically interesting as well. I like this one.
10. Come On Let's Go-Wow, the title of this song is so horrible I don't know if I have the words in my vocabulary to convey nasty look on my face. This is the most dialed in crap I think I have ever heard Billy Corgan perform. This is total shit and I am angry that he thinks that I would want to buy this pap. I think Billy Corgan hates his fans.
11. For God and Country-This song has some nice keyboard touches to it that are very 80s like that song "Send Me An Angel". In fact, this song reminds me alot of that song so I'm thinking possible law suit in the future. The lyrics are so stupid that you start to think they might work and then you go, "nah, Motley Crue's "Without You" sounds like James Joyce compared to this".
12. Pomp And Circumstance-This is actually the most adventurous song of the album and it would have been cool if they had put this much thought in the album as they did in this song. This is a great song to go out on, especially on a record this bad. It would have been cool if Billy Corgan had let his ego go and gone with something more like this on the whole record.
Overall: I like about 4 and half songs from the record.
On a scale of 1 to 10 though I give this album a 2 due to bad songwriting, horrendous lyrics, and bad production. No one needs nostalgia for that bad 80s Winger production. It's not ironic, it's not cool, it's not Weezer-esque, it's just pure CRAP. No wonder James Iha and D'Arcy refused to reform with this guy. My god, I'd be embarrassed to be a part of this album.
Here's a quick newsflash to Billy Corgan's ego: Dude, you totally just blew his career. It's nice to know that your records have become just as difficult to listen to as it is to be around you.
I'm done with Corgan. This album sucks.

Skvor, I was really looking forward to your scathing Pumpkins review. I knew you'd hate it. It's pretty spot on I must say. I tried giving it another shot today, and I literally broke out into fits of laughter with the lyrics/singing on that "Starz" song. LMAO! "Stars, we are stars, we are"... sung with Corgan's prepubescent ultra-nasal voice, it's just hilarious. Definitely one of the funniest things I've heard all year.
