hey Kool, as for comebacks, my friend saw the Police in LA a couple of weeks back and was sorely disappointed....he last saw them circa 1980 and loved them back then, but this time, though he said they were very proficient, there was zilch (0) spontaneity and he felt they were just going through the motions..a very perfunctory performance.... Give it a shot maarts. Who knows? You might love it. I think we just might have the Pumpkins' very own St. Anger here. Loud, hookless, riff-rock nonsense lacking in melody and song structure with some of the most ridiculous lyrics ever penned by Corgan..., and that's saying plenty! The standouts would've made a pretty good 4 track EP though and I'll admit to really liking the first couple of tracks. That's it. And another one toward the end of the album, but I don't remember what it's called. Man, what a disappointing year for 'comeback' albums. I don't think I can stand another stinker. Prince has a new one coming out in a couple of weeks, but my expectations are never high with his recent releases. I'm pretty sure it won't stink though. Being only a 10 track album, I'd like to think he trimmed off anything he may have considered filler.

I think Prince has been pretty consistant over the years and not in a bad way. I'll take a mediocre album from him any day over the newest indie flavor of the month. He's definitely way better than Clap Your Hands And Please Admit You Suck. Yeah, that's true. Early word on the new Prince album is that it's great too. Another thing that has me excited about it is that Wendy & Lisa are back.

Anyone who can YSI me the first Libertines album? My copy has vanished - probably loaned it out - and I'd ripped a back-up to christina's hard drive but her PC died. I'd return a favour.

You are a marvel. Imagine going to play "Horror Show" and not being able to find the CD.

though I liked the debut I wasnt' as enamored with the followng album (see pic below)..I bought it solely on the strength of the reviews and relationship with Mick Jones...but it just didn't quite do it for me..opinions? You are a marvel. Imagine going to play "Horror Show" and not being able to find the CD.

You are a marvel. Imagine going to play "Horror Show" and not being able to find the CD. Well the first album was one of the key British albums of this century so far and a really energetic, ramshackle little classic with killer melodies sprinkled all through it. The second album was lazy, half-finished, a few good songs that blatantly ripped off the Clash... and some awful, self-indulgent clunkers. Basically the smack took its tool I guess. There's a lot of idiotic Libs fans out there who'll tell you it was a classic, but their die-hard fans never had any perspective, especially the ones who slavishly read NME and buy into the 'romanticism' of lying unconscious in piss and puke in some trendy London pub's shitter. All (juvenile) image and no tunes by the end.

And so his grumpy old man act became even more finely honed...

And then I heard some Babyshambles stuff that was brilliant and some Dirty Pretty Things that was brilliant as well. While I won't say that the second Libertines record is a classic like their debut, I will however say that it is a much better album than many people think. Yes, there is some self-indulgent smack rock on there for sure, but for the most it's a pretty decent affair.

yeah, well JLLM, I like grumpy old men!..and though it may be novel to the new cadre of rock and rollers, I have been listening actively rock since 1964 and the 'live fast/die young/leave bloated corpse' motif is somewhat dated.....the only difference is in the 60s there were no Betty Ford clinics or "I got out of rehab and I'm really going to change my life" type of comebacks... generally they just expired!!! And so his grumpy old man act became even more finely honed...
