You really HAVE to see it this weekend ASAP. Either that or wait until your friendly neighborhood arthouse theater starts doing Saturday midnight showings a la Rocky Horror Picture Show. Friendly neighborhood arthouse theater? No such thing. I live in Memphis. I've never been that wild 'bout Rocky Horror either. It's too campy, and well, bad. It does have a (very hot) young Susan Sarandan, though, so it's not w/o some redeeming qualities.

Yeah, Rocky Horror's pretty stupid. I've never got what the big deal was.

That's exactly why many people made it into a cult movie ...
I mean ... Transylvanian transexual Dc. Frank N. Furter in garters ...
It can't get more kitsch than that ... !
And the soundtrack was not bad either !!

MeDiA Co-op 1000 South Cooper Memphis, TN 38104 Phone: 901-278-9077 Website: Memphis Digital Arts Co-op mediaco-op.org/index2.htmlOh look, Tuatha can enter "memphis arthouse theater" into google too! This is a fantastic group of people, and they're really doing their best to bring film to a fairly art-unfriendly city. However, this qualifies as an "arthouse theater" only in the most insanely generous fashion. The schedule of movie showings is totally irregular (yes I know the web site says every Sunday - but I've been looking into this place since February, you see, and their reach almost always exceeds their grasp) and it's basically whatever some random person feels like they should show. The screenings are barely attended by anyone, there's no publicity, it's in the basement of a church. Good for them - but arthouse theater?? Nope - more like a group of cool people and friends who get together every now and then and watch movies. I did the same thing in my living room in Berkeley; I don't think anyone thought my living room was an arthouse theater - though I can only wish!!! There is one independent movie theater in Memphis, but it does contemporary indie and foreign stuff, and lots of political documentaries, and virtually no revival or second-run stuff. But as for a public theater with a regular screening schedule of arthouse flicks, including revival material - it doesn't exist. And Tuatha, I was just being dry. You don't need to take everything I say so literally and instantly pop over to google to prove me wrong. Yesterday I was talking to a friend on the phone and said "this is memphis, there are no liberals here" - I was being droll, obviously. Of course there are liberals here. When I make comments like that, you really don't need to waste your time providing links to the Mid-South Peace and Justice Center and the Germantown Democrats and the Memphis Flyer and the TN Guerilla Women - I also know how to use a search engine. You should assume that I've thoroughly examined Memphis from head to toe on the internet before moving here, since I have a completely obsessive personality. Cheers, M

Rocky Horror is a dream come true for trannies, drag queens, and fag hags. Really the ultimate.
But if you're not one of those demographics, and you still enjoy it, you may wanna take a long look in the mirror...

I feel like you have some profound insight into my personality that I'm not even sure I have Well, at first it's all, "Wow, Mary, sub culture princess from SF with widely diverse group of friends and a thing for all things goth and/or Nick Cave, has never seen Rocky Horror. What a surprise!" But then I think, "Mary, jaded intellectual punk rocker from the day and foreign film fanatic, never got around to wasting her time on the fucking Rocky Horror Picture Show." So yeah, that's it.

Well, OK, I'll take that However I kinda wish I had seen Rocky Horror...but now I think it's too late. I don't think I'd enjoy it now. I should have seen it when I first set foot in SF when I was still 21 - that woulda been the perfect moment. Alas, too late now, I've been corrupted by too much Bergman & Fellini, I guess. Anyway, it won't happen in Memphis. There are no trannies here. (JUST JOKING TUATHA - please don't look up memphis trannies!)

My wife, never quite a fag hag but certainly a receptionist at a salon, used to know every tranny and drag queen in town when she was 19/20, and would always go out on the weekends with them. During that period she learned just about everything there is to know about Rocky Horror. She's got a gal friend who's really bad about it.
About ten months ago, we were at this wing place playing trivia, and one of the questions was about the movie. This gay guy at the table with us had no clue what the answer was, and my wife got it right off. I told him, "Dude, that's pretty sad," and he completely agreed with me.
Another sad story I have regarding it is my friend Archilla, this sorta lanky, wacky guy who's a lot of fun but a little off in the head. He's this metro frat boy type, far from gay but takes care of himself a bit much, and we found out one day that he totally LOVES Rocky Horror and knows the words to the entire soundtrack.
He had to be the only American soldier driving a tank in Iraq who knows the words to that soundtrack. I think he had about ten to fifteen confirmed kills, at that.
...
Anyway, I doubt Snakes will ever reach quite that level, but it'll at the very least be a cultish guy flick like Commando. Probably a little bigger, though.
