Mary, the answer to HMF was just to say "well that theatre isn't friendly and it isn't in my neighborhood"

bah. the rocky horror picture show isn't just for gays and trannies. it's an annual halloween event at the theatres here. folks usually strip down to their fanciest or most eccentric underwear and go to to the theatre to interact with it after clubbing.

I literally did just spit my diet coke onto my keyboard reading the Memphis arthouse theatre google thread. Fantastic! As a long-time former goth (and still occasionally gothically inclined) I have to hold my hand up as another who has never sat through Rocky Horror. I started to, alongside my sister who was watching it for the zillionth time, but after 20-30 minutes of squirming with embarrassment at just how bad it was, I gave up and have determinedly avoided it at all costs ever since. bah. the rocky horror picture show isn't just for gays and trannies. it's an annual halloween event at the theatres here. folks usually strip down to their fanciest or most eccentric underwear and go to to the theatre to interact with it after clubbing. They do that in the major cities here too, lass. I guess as an occasion it's a fun thing to do if you're so inclined. Just don't look too closely at some of the show-goers if you want to avoid nightmares! An old boss of mine - a nice, but skinny and geeky fella (and an IT nerd to boot ) spent a huge part of his 20s going to the show dressed up in what basically constituted an almost exact copy of my Saturday night going-out wardrobe from back in the day. He showed me the photos and I have to say there is nothing cool or funny about a man with nobbly hairy knees and chest hair wearing fishnets, a corset, and slut lipstick. It's just sad. At least leave it to the theatrical goths who do it with a certain elegant ironic sneer.

oh, and another thing, not in 10 years, not in 50, not in a century, a thousand years, not EVER, will SOAP reach 1 tenth, 1 hundredth, nay, but even a fraction of a percent of the ever-widening cult level of popularity & worldwide stardom of the immortal ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW. It just ain't in the books, kiddiez. I am very excited about seeing SOAP, so don't get me wrong. I am merely putting things into their proper perspective, here. The Rocky Horror Picture Show was a PHENOMENON, ya dig? SOAP is no more than a movie w/a certain cultish appeal.
I mean - - yes, so SOAP is a "cult" movie. But the true watermark for its potential success as such, will be for us to wait and see how long it remains in the theaters, w/out being pulled. Such is the distinction for any true blue, bonafide cult movie: like Dark Side Of The Moon, it must remain on the charts for an uninterrupted spell. I'm just sayin' it'll be in the dollar movies like any other commercial fare being cranked outta Hollywood's ass these days, w/in the next few months. We'll see

I finally got to see Snakes just last w/end. Must say I’ve not loved something this much in a while. Will be buying a copy for sure. I don’t suppose it was to be so much of a comedy but hell did I laugh. The “bite” areas on some of these folks were so bizarre I just had too.Gotta love such a snakesploitation flick. Hot damn (intentionally or not) it had 70’s written all over it. A true classic IMO. Loves it!
