Good to see the expressions of affection and respect for John Paul II on this board. Particularly – since his politics and moral vision so often had such a strong Leftist cast, diametrically opposing current Republican policies in many regards – from from those of you on the American right. www.juancole.com/2005/04/other-pope-john-paul-ii-was-complex.htmlGive me a break Drum. The Pope's words could be used as endorsements or dismissals of just about any political thought ... communism being one of the few that could find no endorsement from the man. For as many things as you could point to and say "see, the Pope does not approve of the current US administration doing X" I could point to what he DID approve of. The bottom line is, the Pope's focus and loyalty is God. Sure, there are political aspects to the job of the pope, but to pretend that he can and should be used in politics is just childish.

Separation of church & state needs to be a bit wider than at present IMO.

Separation of church and state needs to be defined with intelligence.

Well that certainly hasn’t been the case of late you must admit.
Excessive & constant self import should also be defined as annoying. Once more just a personal opinion.

To be honest, I can't really say that I've seen all that much of a lack of separation of church and state lately. To the best of my knowledge, all of the governments of the world, and the UN, appear to be comfortable with the cardinals in the Catholic church choosing the next pope -- none are stepping in to do it themselves. There have been some hits as intolerance of Islam in France ... perhaps that is what you are speaking of? Certainly intolerance of religion in China too. But that's been around for a while now. Anything new? No, can't say I see it.

Yeah pissin', a minor pop star Pope John Paul II was... ...move it along folks; keep it movin' there's nothing to see here...If it wasn't for your gaping lack of a sense of proportion in nearly anything you (attempt to) discuss/bait, someone might take you seriously... But god, you wouldn't want THAT would ya, ya little joker? [ img ]Pissin's picture[/ img ] The World's Crowned Doofus

There isn't anything to see, he's freeking dead! Yet keep seeing him everywhere. As well as dazed and confused looking folks wandering about and staring at his corpse. Don't these people have jobs?!

And underneath the headline, I see a tiny headline about a dead soldier who is going to receive a medal of honor.
His name isn't important folks. Nothing to see, just keep moving along...

Perhaps they still have easter holidays?
I read that many European flights to Rome have been booked solid.
Sorry to hear that real international events are boring you so much.

I gotta be honest, not being able to read the news...even some music news sites...without seeing the pope's body on display is kinda creeping me out. Yes, I understand why. I can deal with it, but I can also see how someone might think it's enough already.

My point was actually indirectly this- is the picture of a dead pope not equally as haunting as seeing the face of a haggard Terri Schiavo for so long?
Personally I don't think they should have allowed cameras in to broadcast pictures of the deceased pope.

The Pope's death has an equal amount of impact on my life as Terri Schiavo's. And that would be none at all. I'm not Catholic, I don't ever plan on being Catholic, so who gives a fuck if the Pope's dead. That's not to say I don't understand why other people are mourning, but I still wish I wouldn't have to be innundated with their loss and grief. People die everyday.
I always find it funny when stratman goes on these long offensive rants, then tries to excuse it all by citing emotional reasons. What fucking bullshit. Have some balls and just say "yeah I said it, motherfuckers. And I believe it." But no. Instead you hide behind some emotional excuse, as if it excuses anything. Please. It just makes you look like an even bigger fucking douche.
