The Pope is still clinging to life...now there is a man of grace and dignity. I have a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for that man. An outstanding pope, and an outstanding example for the rest of us.

I just keep on thinking what everyone in the world could learn about facing death by knowing how he is dealing with the past couple of weeks.

To Shin, re: answers/prayer: a big part of prayer is admitting that there are some things in life we'll never know the reasons for, that not every question has an answer forthcoming, but that by placing the situation in God's care we can rest assured that His perfect will shall be accomplished, regardless of the degree to which we are allowed to experience the positive results.

I agree as well. His dignity and grace have been exemplary, also the deeds of his life and his acceptance of its nearing end.
There's just one thing I don't get - the great call to prayer etc. for him. Seems to me he's on the fast track to the Pearly Gates already - if there was ever anybody who was a rubber stamp for St. Peter, he ought to be it. Gabriel has to be tuning up already. I suppose one could pray for a painless and uncomplicated end, but it seems like the Big Guy would already being handling that too. So why do the unwashed masses need to pray for him when he has the red phone to the Big Guy? I mean, he's the go-to guy when Catholics need somebody to intervene for them with the Almighty. I just don't get it. Peace be with him.

Because of the love so many have for him, it's out of respect. I doubt many are asking for his entrance into eternal happiness, thats a given. If anything it helps US to pray for him, if that makes sense. The man has touched so many.....

Anyone else seen this? Here's a link to verify I'm not making it up. news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/kgtv/20050329/lo_wkmg/2648050 If you expressed your support to Terri Schiavo and her parents fight to keep her alive, you may begin to receive a steady stream of solicitations, according to a Local 6 News report. Terri Schiavo's parents have agreed to sell their list of supporters to a direct-mailing firm, Local 6 News reported. The company, "Response Unlimited" pays about $150 a month for 6,000 names and $500 a month for 6,000 e-mail addresses. A spokesperson for the Schindlers confirmed that they had agreed to sell the information, but won't say for how much. Watch Local 6 News for more on this story. Scratching my head in sheer wonder.

People get involved with a specific cause, but their help and support is needed as well when the big story dies down, and the work still needs to be done. Both the Bush and Kerry campaigns worked off similair lists of people interested in a specific cause that the candidate supported. It's basic grassroots politics. I sincerely doubt that these people are going to be receiving credit card offers and opportunities to re-finance their morgages as a result of this. If you do a search on Response Unlimited, you'll see that the firm specializes in marketing for Christian Evangelical causes.

Sometimes, they're intended to help you to come to terms and acceptance with God's will in another's life. Often, they're both.

Thanks Trace. you posting that long harangue by Stratman made me waste half an hour going back to read up on it and the answers posted. thanks Stratman's post was a fairly obnoxious, narrow-minded one. i remain amazed that people like that get taken seriously at all.

IT's far more easy to take seriously someone who has the balls to put their thoughts out there for others to consider than it is a chicken who is more than willing to criticize, but lacks the courage to express his own beliefs.

Well, I have to express my gratitude to the current Pope... he has been an oustanding voice for the Catholic Church on world events, has frequnetly championed love, respect and freedom throughout his entire life... what a truly wonderful example for all humanity to follow...
Pope John Paul II will leave behind an incredible legacy, one which can be revered.
You see it's some of this stuff that gets forgotten when people start ranting about the state of the Catholic Church today... we know it has elements that need desperately to be modrnised, yet, John Paul II has taken so many forward steps in the Churchs role on the world scale, especially when it comes to international politics...
My hope for the Catholic Church under a new pope will be that it takes another deep look at itself, like the Vatican II conferences called by John XXIII... lets have a vatican III... a number of "internal" issues within the Church need addressing... particularly the future of the priesthood... Celibate Priest numbers are dwindling and the issue of allowing married priest, or allowing priests to marry needs to be considered... the condition that a Priest have no marital ties is asking alot of young men, and is a major turnaway factor, and probably a strong contributor the lack of priests found in alot of Archdiocese these days...
I hope we have a new progreesive Pope, that can carry on the wonderful advances of John Paul II.
I pray for the current pope's delivery from pain and sickness, and I am thnakful for his incredible contributions to the human race.
