Let's discuss. Maybe we can come up with a solution to this place. We need a set of rules.

A current event.
This evening, somewhere within 30 minutes of Halifax, a Canadian banker left alone for the weekend by his wife drank beer, a lot of beer and sat aroudn the house naked watching hockey with his dogs.
Alright, just the dogs were naked, but there was some good hockey happening. Discuss.

Naked dogs! No!
What sort of rules did you have in mind, Kenny? CE has always gone through hot and cold cycles - sort of like the news...

What CE needs is not new rules but different attitudes ...
Oh well...

What attitude adjustments do we need, Phil?

Thing is, I am not much up for rules. But the way I see it, there is a basic disconnect between the people who regularly post here that goes way beyond ideological differences: It's why I always see RocDoc as freaking out, and he always sees me as some kind of juvenile academic snob (which I very well might be). It's why Chrisfan always comes across as condescending to those who oppose her.
I am not proposing any kind of whosesale change here. What I do propose is that everyone keep the following things in mind:
1) People are passionate about politics, and egos are bound to be hurt. You probably shouldn't post on CE if you can't stand being called a jackass. 2) With that being said, chill the fuck out. As far as is known, no one here is any sort of insider in any given administration. Just because you read something on some online news blog does not automatically make your point true and everyone else's false. There is no need to take an attack on your favorite politician as some sort of personal attack. 3) Realize that, for some, the crazy shit that some posters post is as offensive as the shit Pissin used to post was to some people. 4) Most people here are guilty of the shit they accuse others of doing. Stop doing it, or keep doing it, but don't pretend you are innocent.

4) Most people here are guilty of the shit they accuse others of doing. Stop doing it, or keep doing it, but don't pretend you are innocent. This is a keeper...just like in real politics. When the left accuses the right of something they deny it. which is quite frustrating so the left will retaliate by becoming more juvenile. So the right is continually deny they do things that they clearly do and the left look like four year olds constantly pitching a fit going "oh come on, you saw that! It's not fair"...and then Canada goes "Bunch a douche bags, you should be more like us" So how do we fix it? I don't think we do. I think it's just the way things work. However between the lying and then lying about lying and whining and finger pointing and name calling some really good points get made...or at least they used to. It's not that there's anymore of that shit then there ever was all the way back to RS.com...it's all the good conversations that came with them that have died. We're too used to each other...that was the beauty of RS is you could take a break from it without leaving. These boards are more confined...it's simply the way they're built. We don't really think the other side is listening anymore so instead of trying to talk to anyone we just say "you're an idiot, fuck off" or we ignore them. Neither approach is condusive to conversation. Personally, I just don't feel like I've got much to say lately...maybe it's as simple as that.

1) Don't take the attitude that every post a person makes is simply an extension of the same 'distasteful' persona which you're somehow convinced your infallible bullshit-meter has totally sussed this or that person out...read for content, not necessarily as always 'This is how I've judged that he/she has been in their past 10 posts. Here they are, exactly the same again'.
See the other facets in a person's posts occasionally. See the difference that just a day (sometimes) can make.

How about adressing what people are saying rather than resort to namecalling? That's always the weakest form of debate.
