"The New World" is just so stupidly appropriate right now, eh?

Name those lyrics, 2004 edition:
1) "Drain the pressure from the swelling" 2) "Heaven ain't close in a place like this" 3) "Is any song worth singing if it doesn't help?" 4) "Hold your mistake up" 5) "How was your date with Eminem?" 6) "The more you know, the less you feel" 7) "Doll her up in virgin white" 8) "Hope paves the way to disappointment and pain" 9) "You make me want to pick up a guitar" 10) "They shot the tiger on its chain" 11) "Here's 50,000 watts of good will" 12) "'Cause they said I'm too lazy to stay alive" 13) "Try if you can to make it last" 14) "All you do is make me cry" 15) "I took off my wedding band and put it on my right hand"

It's a line from U2's Last Night On Earth, off of 1997's Pop.

Ya know, I was also thinking of that new song ... even looked it up on a web site, which gave a slightly different, but similar lyric ...
... and the "official" word from the lyric sheet is ...
"the more you see the less you know"
--- City of Blinding Lights

No no. "The more you see, the less you know" is the first line of the song, but the first line of the last verse is "The more you know, the less you feel". Check it out, yo.
But yeah, that's the right song.

I just realized that you posted that while I was in the process of editing my post to indicate that it was in a new song but not the first line of the song, as my post originally indicated.
Edit: I looked up the lyrics to "Last Night on Earth". According to two websites, the most similar lines to the one posted above are "The more you take, the less you feel/The less you know, the more you believe/The more you have, the more it takes today." I've never heard the song, so I can't vouch for the accuracy there, but if those are right, then it looks like U2 isn't copying themselves exactly, although working from a similar base. I wonder if those two songs, despite the seven years between them, share a common beginning.

I haven't pulled out my Pop lyric sheet to check, but I think those could be the right words ... I'm nowhere near the lyric maven I was when I was in my twenties. Now, I just try to get a feel from what I can understand of the words, don't spend much time looking at 'em ... and memorizing songs is something that basically happens by accident these days.
I did (finally) see where you got that line from in City of Blinding Lights (about the same time as you pointed it out to me). I was just too tired to post anything more. Fucking head cold ...
OK, so I get credit for that first one, now somebody else needs to come in and do the rest of that list! ;D

geez, I can't identify one set of lyrics...though I'm not exactly adept, as denizens from these boards well know, on reciting titles, lyrics, etc..... I know you have a couple of the albums those come from, bow, and #2 is repeated many times in the most popular song off an album that I thought I saw you praising within the last few days. Anyway, just to move this along, here are the artists that those lyrics are taken from, in no order: U2 (already identified) The Arcade Fire Neko Case Interpol The Killers Wilco Loretta Lynn Sonic Youth Blanche The Libertines Elliott Smith The Pixies Guided by Voices Social Distortion Green Day
