Alas, Ken, you're right about R.E.M....I just happen to be at that part of my CD collection right now! My alphabetical listening project has been kind of going in fits and starts lately, it's been frequently interrupted by overwhelming urges to hear particular albums, but I'm still trying...
In any case, for what it's worth, I find Document infinitely more entertaining than Murmur. I mean, not only do I not get the latter, it actively puts me to sleep! But Document is good old fashioned rock and foll fun - it's nothing I'd take with me to a desert island, but it's good head-boppin' music.
NP: R.E.M. - Document (song: It's the End of the World as We Know It)
Cheers, M

Mary, Murmer and the follow-up (Reckoning) by this longtime REM stalwart are infinitely THE exemplary albums from this group...of course, my opinion only!!
As for further definition of "blindspot' , look no further than the folllowing word association test:
Ken Holzman======The Doors
Can you say Myopia?

I always loved Document but Peter Buck was so dead on when he talked about Murmur's 'weird soul'. That record is really something special, IMHO.

Bow -- no, disliking the Doors isn't a critical blind spot, it's a sign of critical good taste! ;D
And I'm with Drum (and Peter Buck) on Murmer ... it's an amazing record, one of the best debuts in rock.

Tunes -- you don't own Power, Corruption and Lies? Oh that's a huge oversight, that you need to correct at some point. A great, great record. Better than anything Joy Division ever did ... IMHO at least. Easily New Order's best album... *splutter* It's not as good as Movement imo, but to say it's "better than anything Joy Division ever did"...?? You're barred from my local, Holzman

Sorry Jesus, as I'm more than willing to acknowledge at this point, Joy Division are a HUGE critical blind spot for me. PCL blows away any JD album, and any individual JD song (with the notable exception of Love Will Tear Us Apart (again) which really is as good as the fans think!).
