Very cool, Thorn! Do you know who else will be performing on the bill?

I'll be seeing Pearl Jam and Tom Petty at Milwaukee Summerfest.
A friend of mine who lives in Colorado is a Ten Club member, and hasn't missed them on tour in ages. Unfortunately, this year she'll be visiting family in Michigan while they're in Colorado, and will be back home when they play in Michigan. There was almost a big crisis, until I told her I'd heard that they'd be playing Summerfest. So she picked up a pair of tickets, and is paying for half of mine as a birthday present/finder's fee. Should be fun. I saw Pearl Jam with her once in Cleveland a few years back and it was a hell of a show.

I don't, Ken. Was wonderin about it myself: will Sonic Youth be on the bill -? (*I doubt it . . . I 've a feeling this is strictly pearl jam . . . . "an evenign with" kinda thing)
But I'll be sure to report back here, should I find out otherwise !

It will either be Paul Westerberg or Sonic Youth; My Morning Jacket is opening for them on the East, and Kings Of Leon in Australia....don't know who is opening in Europe.

Either Westerberg or Sonic Youth? Hell, I'd go see it just for the opening act!
So does this mean that Westerberg has a new disc coming out soon as well? I need to go bill some clients so I can get all this new stuff ...

I've listened to the album 4 times now (haven't listened since last Thursday), and love it! It's rare that I like a PJ album off the bat, out of 8 there have been 3 I liked instantly (Vs., Yield, Pearl Jam). Anyway, WWS is near the bottom for me, but now that I've heard the other songs I don't think it's as bad/dull....It makes sense why its the single; it's catchier and more simple than anything else on the album.

I was hoping they would come to the Nissan Pavillion in Virginia, but Petty is coming here w/ Trey Anastasio from Phish.

I'm going to pick up the new PJ, but it probably won't be right away on Tuesday. I'm gonna try to stop off tonight and pick up the new Bruce (obviously went to the top of my "must-have" list, esp. since it's getting raves). I've got enough investment in PJ now that I wind up buying almost anything they put out. Hell, the only reason I don't own pretty much all the bootlegs is just b/c I can't justify the total expense.

True that....How many boots do you have? I have too many, and most are collecting dust....The only ones I listen to anymore are: Milan, Italy (one of the best from the whole lot of the 2000 tour. Actually one of the best of all the boots from all tours. Stellar gig!) San Sebastian, Spain (one of the worst from the 2000 tour, you should hear them butcher "Alive", it's quite amusing. To quote Eddie "We smoked a lot of hash, maybe that has something to do with it") Detroit, MI (my favorite US performance from the 2000 tour) St. Louis, MO (from the 2003 tour; they open w/ Present Tense!!!! Nuff said). Boston #3 (from the 2003 tour...What can be said, 3rd night in Boston and PJ bust out a whopping 45 fucking songs; WOW!).

Lessee, I don't think I've got 'em all on iTunes here, so here's what I remember ...
Milan 2000. Oh yeah, stellar show is dead right. One of the best live albums I've ever heard. This was actually a big part of getting me to cross the line into PJ fandom.
I've got one of the Tokyo shows from 2003, and at least one (maybe two) from Oz on that same tour. One of these shows had Johnny Marr helping out on guitar in the encores. Very cool.
I've got the Seattle three cd show from the end of the 2000 tour, which has some really inspired moments and really drags in other places.
I also have that Boston show ... bought it b/c it was the only time I've ever seen them play Mankind live, which I really like. Very casual show, great vibe from the crowd and the band seems to be really having fun.
I may well be missing something here ... I try not to just buy every one I see, but frankly they all tempt me. I actually base a lot of my decision to buy on what they cover in the encores. I bought the Milan show b/c I wanted RITFW, and I bought another one of 'em for Baba O'Reilly (b/c my little brother had told me that they did an excellent rendition). And of course, when I saw that they were covering Know Your Rights I had to get that, as well.
I generally like the 2000 shows better than the 2003s, simply b/c I prefer Binaural to Riot Act. But I've enjoyed every PJ boot I've heard.

Likewise; the 2000 tour seemed to have more energy, or maybe I just bought the wrong bootlegs from 2003....
The Detroit one from 2000 you may like....They open w/ "Go" which is extremely rare, and close w/ "Fucking Up" dedicated to Dennis Rodman.
I've got the Seattle three cd show from the end of the 2000 tour, which has some really inspired moments and really drags in other places.
You know, most people/die hards think this is the holy grail of PJ boots, but I'm w/ you; the show has moments, but isn't nearly as good as some of the others I've heard.
Oh, one I forgot:
Jones Beach #3, NY (from the 2000 tour; For you No Code fans, this is the boot to get...They play 7 NC songs including 'Present Tense', 'Mankind', 'Off He Goes', and 'In My Tree'. Also during the Rearview Mirror (RVM) jam, they give a nod to the Kinks by riffing 'You Really Go Me'. Plus it's the best version of RVM you'll ever hear).

So Kings of Leon are opening for PJ when they tour down under? Thats bizarre, KoL only just toured here again. They must love coming out here. Its probably all the free coke they're given.
Can't wait to see PJ again though. Gig-wise, they age very well.

Can't wait to see PJ again though. Gig-wise, they age very well. Apparently Eddie Vedder has become friends w/ the guys and hung out w/ them in Europe when the KOL toured there.... I'm getting My Morning Jacket for the opener...Don't know much about them. I listened to their album once thought it was boring and haven't listened since. 1 month and 3 days till I see PJ! You're right Layla, they do age well....I just got done listening to that Jones Beach NY gig I mentinoned yesterday and it sounded fantastic! Red Mosquito, Whippin', Immortality, and RVM were the highlights for me...
