They barely play the song... I think they played it once during the 2000 tour, and that was only b/c some girl w/ an umbrella saying "Wash" showed up to like ten gigs and finally Ed Vedd acknowledged her and they played the song...In 2003, same thing, they played the song maybe twice...and Camden, NJ was the only time "Wash" has been played this current tour...

I was mistaken about it being the first time they opened w/ it since 1992, but they don't play the song very often....mabye three times an entire tour...I'd consider that a deep cut.

Popped in the new record at least several times in the last few days, and the more I listen to it, the more I adore it. Not a single track that doesn't seem to belong... I'll listen to one track and put it on repeat, then another and do the same, and then another...
My top 3, at this point:
No Code (Best starting six of any PJ record, plus the whole's greater than the sum of the parts) Pearl Jam (Not a dull or subpar moment. Army Reserve's finally grown on me, too) Riot Act (Underrated and underappreciated... Eddie's vocals may've turned people off)

My top 3, at this point: No Code (Best starting six of any PJ record, plus the whole's greater than the sum of the parts) Pearl Jam (Not a dull or subpar moment. Army Reserve's finally grown on me, too) Riot Act (Underrated and underappreciated... Eddie's vocals may've turned people off) I repeat "Marker In The Sand" every time I listen to it; IMO it's the best song on the album. I know the album is still new, so this may sound weird, but after 2 solid months of listening to it, and seeing them live twice this tour, the new album is holding up remarkably well. It's the same for me in that the more I listen the more I adore the album, and I agree that there really isn't a bad moment on the entire album (a first for Pearl Jam IMO). Gone, Inside Job, and Army Reserve have been the most difficult songs for me to get into, but I don't think they're bad, just not really my bag...however, these songs are all starting to grow on me, especially Inside Job. Really the first 7 songs are among Pearl Jam's best IMO..."Life Wasted" is superb, and even WWS has grown on me. Once I read the lyrics and understood the chorus (Vedder and his marble mouth), the song was much more fun to listen to. Like you though, I still believe 'No Code' is Pearl Jam's finest moment. Sure it may have some weaker songs, but to me, the album contains some of Pearl Jam's absolute best songs (In My Tree, Hail Hail, Off He Goes, Present Tense, Who You Are), and those first 6 songs are the best opening sequence on any PJ record (I love how "Hail Hail" blast your speakers after the quite intro of "Sometimes"). Anyway, my rankings: 1. No Code 2. Pearl Jam (avocado) 3. Vitalogy 4. Yield 5. Binaural 6. Vs. 7. Ten 8. Riot Act Oh, just b/c RA is at the bottom of the list doesn't mean I hate it either...I listened to it a few times before Avocado came out, and it was much better than I remembered...it's a pretty interesting album. There are a few duds, but songs like "1/2 Full", "Can't Keep", and "Green Disease" are top tier. And songs like "Help, Help", and "You Are" are nice and experimental (at least for PJ)...the rockers were a bit lackluster IMO, but I really dig "Ghost"...something about "Save You" doesn't sit w/ me too well....

I entirely agree on Save You being RA's weak point. I'm sure the effort was put in, but it feels awkward... the vocals/lyrics/guitars come off as somewhat cluttered, and the band just didn't seem to be on the same page like they did on other tracks off that record. No clue why it was single #2.
My feelings for Vitalogy are similar to your views on Riot Act. When the album hits, my God, does it (Not For You, Nothingman, Immortality)... but I don't need to hear Bugs more than twice, and as much as the band defends Stupid Mop, I'm not. I'm glad they were bold enough to experiment and use the album as a stepping stone toward No Code, regardless.
My full ranking:
1) No Code 2) Pearl Jam 3) Riot Act 4) Binaural (Great night album... a fine adventure in atmosphere!) 5) Vs. (Second most consistent PJ album to the new one) 6) Yield (The mellower tracks are generally much better than the harder ones) 7) Vitalogy (First five tracks = Godly) 8) Ten (The songs are wonderful, but radio burnt it out for me and the production holds it back)
As much as I thoroughly enjoy Last Exit and Can't Keep, I'm ready to rank Life Wasted as my #1 PJ opener. What I especially enjoy is that, while it's aggressive and packs all the energy anyone can ask for, it's sort of an optimistic tune lyrically.
*would love a PJ magazine cover similar to the middle part of the inside album packaging*

I think I'm gonna agree...haven't thought too much about my favorite opener, but now that you mention it...It's definitely between "Last Exit" and "Life Wasted"...
1. Life Wated 2. Last Exit 3. Go 4. Sometimes 5. Can't Keep 6. Brain Of J 7. Once 8. Breakerfall

I still like the Oceans opener alot. Everybody comes out and plays one of their rockiest songs first, it's boring. Start it with something slower and ease into the rock. You got all night take it easy.

^^^^ Mantis, we were talking about album openers, not concert openers....I'm with you about "Oceans"! I saw them open w/ that back in 1998, and it's easily the best opener I've seen/heard them do (of my 9 shows I've been to).
