i tried listening to lost dogs once or twice, but it just didn't click with me. it's a shame. i wholeheartedly love the 7 studio albums.
maybe i'll give it another shot sometime. maybe i'm a bit tired of pj's music (due to overplay), but my heart's still with them. i hope that, whenever their next record comes out, it involves a new, perhaps epic direction. i love riot act, but i need something with more energy. something with the power of binaural's rockier tracks, for example. no code, binaural, and riot act are my favorite pj records... i just don't want them to overuse a sound, and that's what direction i fear they may be going in. i have faith, anyway.

I wouldn't mind hearing PJ splash out with a new sound myself... Lost Dogs was a nice enough collection of rarities and B - Sides, which I enjoyed but I can't say I play an incredible amount of times...
If Pearl Jam were to take a new direction what direction do people think they would go in??!!

Pearl Jam don't do unreasonable love songs! Maybe they should try something downbeat and unusually broody... sorta like a Pearl Jam version of Automatic for the People... speaking for myself, I LOVE their slower, emotional accoustic, broody stuff... I could handle a whole album of tastefully written and played accoustic chords set to plaintive vocals by Eddie Vedder...
Wouldn't that sort of album make a splash and suprise some people??!

Hmmmmm, yeah... they probably have too much of a punk rock ethos streak going through the band to do that sort of thing, too...
I can't see them doing a full on eletronic / rock crossover records using cutting edge drum machines, the latest hip hop MCs bustin' a move while someone gets a cap in thier ass...
Somehow that doesn't seem to work well as a suggestion!

Scottsy - I love their slower, brooding stuff too. Tho seems to me they've already done that by releasing No Code . . .which also happens to be my favorite album of theirs. It has this perfectly-focused feel to it bordering on a Zen calm, until they start whipping it to a nice, frothy jam on some of the more rockin' tunes on it. I think it's their Great Shining Moment, personally.
As to what direction I personally wish Pearl Jam would take their next album . . . to give you an idea, I urge you to consider the following songs from their repertoire:
Once Why Go Animal Blood Rearviewmirror Not For You Corduroy Smile Red Mosquito Given To Fly
etc.
And perhaps you'll be able to see where I'm headed with this: I think Pearl Jam should pull out all the stops and release their HARDEST, most ROCKIN', searing, wailin', lead-guitarist-about-to-spontaneously-combust, scorchin, FAST hot & heavy album to date! If I were Eddie, I'd be huddlin' with the boyz & sayin' "Look, you know how we used to put in a few balls-to-the-wall rockers, like BLOOD in our albums? What say we release an entire album of hard rockin' shit?" And what do you think the rest of em would say? They'd all High-5 each other and say "Fuck Yeah!"
I Wish . . .

so this is where everybody ended up? How does everyone feel about the PJ greatest hit double cd coming out this week? Is it good old nostalgia or shark jumping?

Pearl Jam don't have to change nuthin. I just busted out with Vitalogy the other day and let me tell you, that fucker still holds up. Their best and one of the best albums ever released. It's the perfect mix of rockin, mellow, and weird.

Not going to worry about buying a copy of the best of CD.... just need to read the track listing... burn my own copy!
Or better still listen to one of their incredible albums, and get everything the band is about, without repackaging.
Any word on the recording future of the band??! Are they going to release new albums anymore... I remember hearing there were a number of concepts about how the band might function and release music post - Epic.
If anyone has any enlightening news, do go right ahead and tell!

I picked up the best-of since I only have Ten and it's just perfect for me. I can't believe the zero attention this set is getting, even I didn't even know it was coming out until a few days ago. I like how the discs were arranged, especially since I like the "downer" songs the best.

Nice collection but I have all the albums and own enough live discs sorry you won't get my duckets this time looking foward to see what direction they go next
A kick ass guitar album would be nice with some poltical heat behind it maybe a full circle U2 direction?
